There actually was a recall on these cars to replace the socket and bulbs. Contact a dealership near you and see if the recall is open for your vehicle. You will need the VIN number to your vehicle when you call the dealership.

SOURCE: 1982 toyota land cruiser Tail Lights not working

Do you have dual battery wiring??? I had the same problem with my cruiser when I first purchased it.
The main battery was connected to the starter motor, headlights, indicators and a couple of other lights. Although not installed, the positive terminal of the second battery was wired to the alternator and tail/position lights. But because the battery was not there the lights were not working.
All I did to fix the problem was put in a second battery, and ensure the battery isolator switch (which was on the side of the engine bay near the top) was disengaged.
I also decided to wire my batteries in parallel (connect positive to positive, no need to connect negative terminals as they are both connected to ground) so that the main battery was connected to the alternator and would charge also. You can tell if your main battery is connected to the alternator by putting a voltmeter (there may be one in your dash) across your battery, if it shows about 14.5V then the alternator is connected. If it shows only 12V or less then the alternator is not connected or not working properly.

Check fuse #19 in the rear fuse panel. If OK, you may have a bad Lift Gate Module (LGM) or a broken wire in the wire harness between the lift gate and the body (in the area of the rubber boot)

How do i remove the sensor for the rear tailgate?

1) Locate and remove sensor.
The sensor is located under the drivers tail light. Unclip it from the body and then unplug it.

2) Bypass the tail light circuit.
Connect the tail light signal wire (Green) to the tail light wire (Green w/ Red Stripe). I recommend using wire tap in squeeze connectors that way you dont have to cut any wires.

3) Bypass the brake light circuit.
Connect the brakelight signal wire (Green w/ White Stripe) to the brake light wire (Red w/ Blue stripe) and the the 3rd brake light wire (Red w/ White Stripe). Again all three of these wires are to be connected together.

4) Throw away your broken Tail Lamp Failure Sensor
Do not plug your sensor back in. Doing so will cause the annoying orange lamp failure warning light on your dash to stay on. Leave it unplugged ant the light will stay off.

5) Test your work
Turn on your lights and make sure your tail lights work properly. Have a friend step on the brake pedal, and make sure your brake lights work properly as well. Dont forget to check the Third brake light.

My tail lights wont shut off

usually when the headlights goes off so does the tail lights thats mean the brake light switch but the side markers are staying on too. it can't be the fuse since they still light. the only thing that breaks the currant is the switch. it sounds like there,s a problem with the headlight switch. the headlight switch operates the side markers and the tail lights along with the head lights. Hope this can helper .

06 Taurus tail light

If you are saying a tail light does not work, and you have changed the bulb, have you checked for voltage and ground at the socket ?
Could be a faulty socket or wiring problem.

TAIL LIGHTS STAYING ON. 1998 JAGUAR XK8

All the lighting goes through the security module in the trunk. If both lamps are staying on them you probably need a new security module. If one light is staying on then you have cut the wire for that tail lamp coming out of the security module and jump the wire from the other tail lamp so both are powered on the one circuit. But first remove the lamp cluster, disconnect it and make sure you do have constant power going to the cluster. If so then first I would perform a hard reboot on the car. Disconnect both sides of the battery, wait for about 30 seconds and then join both of the DISCONNECTED BATTERY TERMINALS TOGETHER (this discharges any memory in the computers) Then reconnect the positive to the battery then the negative. Start the car, reset your clock and retest the lights. If you have the same issue then start with the wiring to the security module.

Volvo s40 1998 bulb warning light on, what does this mean

If by that you mean:

"warning light goes on when I start the motor, and goes off after first time I use the brake pedal"

, don't worry, it's normal, it's how it work. If it stays on even after the use of brakes, you have a bad bulb on brake tail lamps
