Automatic tranmission will not shift when cold.

1995 toyota 4 runner, automatic tranmission will not shift unless ran for a few miles, no matter what the temp is outside. I can get it to shift by letting off the gas pedal. filter and fluid was changed roughly 300 miles ago.

Automatic tranmission not working on overdrive, tacoma 2006

The knock sensor fault may be preventing the transmission from shifting to OD. The main engine computer also sends commands to the transmission computer. Your transmission valve body is controlled by electronics.

Service your transmission. Change the fluid and filter every 24,000 miles. The owners manual doesn't call for it, but they want to sell you another car at 100,000 miles. I have had to replace a few transmissions following the manufacturer's instructions before I decided to ignore that part.

Check your fluid level. If it isn't the fluid you trashed the tranny.

First thing to do is check the fluid level if that ok you may want to think about having the transmission filter and fluid changed, there are other possibilities but check these first

Tranmission trouble

Hello Longhorn,
Thank you for choosing for your answer Im David.

Depending on whether you have a automatic or a manual shift there are a few things that may cause your troubles. If you have a automatic transmission check your fluid level make sure its full it could also be your transmission filter It may be dirty if there is alot of miles on it. there are quite a few things that could cause it from vacume lines to sensors my advice is to check the fluid level if that looks good I would take it to your local garage and have it hooked on a computer to check for vacume leaks sensor troubles etc..before you go spending alot on parts you probally do not need.
