If the rattle is repeatable, try pushing down on either side of the Instrument Panel at the A pillars. If the rattle does not go away, it may be the hood flushness adjusting plastic bolt rattling within the hood hinge. Open the hood and in the hood hinge assembly you will see a hood flushness adjusting bolt. This is the suspect part. Turn the bolt head 1/4 - 1/2 turn counter clockwise. This will ensure full contact of the bolt head to the hinge. Close the hood and try to repeat the rattle. If the hood flushness adjusting bolt is the source of the noise, you can also grasp the rear of the hood (near the windshield) on either side and move it up and down. If the bolt is loose, the hood will have up-and-down looseness. Another issue to be aware of: This noise also may be described as a creak/squeak or sometimes as a pop/snap. The source is the styrofoam block glued to the headliner in both forward corners (at the top of the A-pillar). The styrofoam block, if mis-positioned slightly, can contact the sun visor mounting bracket causing the noise. The noise can be intermittent and can also be affected by temperature (usually occurs when top of vehicle is heated by the sun, but sometimes occurs only when the vehicle is cold). Repair is to use a razor blade and trim the styrofoam block at the point of contact. DO NOT try to remove and re-position the styrofoam block - you'll break it! It is held to the headliner with a really strong adhesive.

I recently had the cabin air filter replaced, by a toyoto dealership and now I have an annoying rattle from the glove box. 2004 Avalon Toyoto I might add that I have brought it back twice and they can...

possibly a screw was dropped, try removing the glove box and take alook. tap around the area gently with your fist and see if you can create the rattle, this will give you the area to look for.

Check your exhaust heat shields, they usually rust around the bolts that hold the upper and lower together.

My 1992 Honda Accord EX-R makes a clunking/rattling sound...

It's probably your cv (constant velocity) joint. Jack up the honda and put it on safety stands, look at the area behind the center of both front wheels, there is a rubber boot. This boot protects the cv joint from dirt, road grime, water, salt, etc. If you see splits in it or grease on the boot, it has deteriorated, and is letting contaniments in. The damage has already been done if it makes a rattling noise going around corners at slow speed. I changed both cv joints (purchased rebuilt axles for $49 each) in my 92, but it is a big job labor wise. There's a lot to take apart to remove the axles.

Pontiac G6 gas pedal rattle

Is this almost like a metallic buzzing sound?

Find the catalytic converter under the car it should have a shield on it. Use a broomstick with the car running and hold the shield still and have someone give it a little gas. Just move from shield to shield until you find the offending shield.

Don't touch these with your hand as they can get hot fast.

Most parts houses sell a very large hose clamp to go around these shield for about $10, they will know exactly what you are looking for.
