Question about 1998 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup

1 Answer

After stopping at a dead stop my 98 S10 has a hard time getting out of first gear to start up again. Maybe its the fuel line or I need a new stick shift.

Is this a standard or automatic? If standard, do you mean that it won't come out of first gear so that you can shift it to second gear? I don't understand your question. Need more information. Do you mean that it is sluggish and has no power? Do you mean that an automatic transmission won't shift?

Could you have someone start it for you? Then listen for the humming, find out where it's comming from. Yes there could be air bubbles in the fuel lines. But from
what you said,it could be the starter.

The s10 have a fuel shut off relay to shut off fuel supply in case of an accident. They also have a anti-theft system that prevents fuel in case of theft.Pull the fuel line off and crank the engine to see if you get fuel. Sorry I can't be of more help but without hands on vehicle it is hard to tell. Also your fuel pump maybe sounding like it is pumping. In other words it may be running but not pumping fuel it mat have a ruptured diaphragm in the pump. The pump is running but not pumping fuel. Pull the fuel line off at the fuel filter and turn on ignmition or crank the engine you should have about 50PSI coming out.If you don't install new fuel pump. These vehicles are common for this problem the fuel pump runs but does not pump fuel or not enough pressure these vehicle require 57 PSI to start if it has less than 51PSI it will not start unless you use starting fluid then it will run.It will run with less fuel pressure it will just not start with less than 57PSI.

Hope this helps

I was driving my s10 blazer 96. it stopped running was like it ran out of gas .keep re starting it but will only idle .if you give it gas it dies.

I also have a 96 s10 blazer . I f your not getting any engine codes try changeing your fuel filter its located under the drivers door mounted to the frame rail in the fuel line . But honestly the fuel pumps on this vehicle had a lot of problems and needed upgrades the whole fuel system is a problem the lines all rust out the tank rust out the evap system is a problem So i 've spent a lot of time and money to fix mine and i can do it my self so you need to weight if its worth like 1000 or so dollars to fix everything that will need to be fixed to make it dependable again . I also have all of the factory manuals for this vehicle and would be glad to give you any information you may need not olny for the fuel system but anything Good luck fellow 96 -99 blazer owener

only half way there if you have a tbi check the crank sensor/ cam sensor that is the first line of business on that truck if the crankshaft sensor fails the truck stops dead when you wait a few minutes the sensor re energizes and the truck will work again for a bit antiknock can cause similer problems but not while the truck is running

1999 Chevy S10 cranks but wont start

A very common problem on the 99 S10 is a leaky fuel pressure regulator in the intake plenum. What happens is when the truck sits for a few hours or more the regulator leaks all of the fuel in the fuel injection system into the intake air plenum. This does 2 things, 1 it has no fuel pressure when starting and 2 it floods the air intake with raw fuel. Sometimes if you turn the key on wait 3 seconds then turn key off then turn key back on and just turn key to crank starter for a split second and wait 3 seconds.do this 3 times to repressurize fuel system then crank to start(you will hear fuel pump buzz each time you do this.also you may have leaky fuel injectors. Try to crank engine with the gas pedel to the floor. This will tell the computer to stop spraying fuel trhough the injectors and it will start. Joe ASE Master Tech

Check the fuse under the dash. Did you replace the inline fuel filter? If not, you could loosen the line going into the filter then turn the key to the on position. The pump should run for about 2 seconds then the relay should kick off. Turn off the key for approx. 5 seconds then cycle key back on and the pump should cycle again. If you get a 2 second burst of fuel each time then the pump is cycling. Install a new fuel filter and check the grounded wire by the tank. Hope this helps. :)
