well driving for a week to see if the problem would "correct itself" was not an option. So we printed your answer and then called a Certified Mech friend of ours; he took the negative battery cable, laid it on top of positive for about one minute, but still the problem after a few seconds of idling. Then he did just as you described above -- wonderful!!! However if he hadnt done this we would have had to post again because where this intake hose is located is not something that your non-car mechanic would now. There was so much carbon like crap in that intake hose it is a wonder I have been able to get any gas mileage. Thanks for the answer-- this site is awesome!

Drive it for a week or so the problem should correct itself, but if it doesn't do this procedure to clean the intake and idle motor.
Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

I just had the battery replaced in my '02 Camry. It will now start but stall when you take your foot off the gas. At Autozone they hook up to the computer and said there were no codes. Was told to drive...

had this problem twice after battery change and starter change....each time the car died on me about 5 or 6 times at idle...then it cleared itself and never happened again...

Changed battery and now Camry will not idle.

Was it idling before you changed the battery? If you were to clean out the throat of the aluminum inlet manifold just behind the throttle body with a parts cleaner product that is safe for plastics (sensors) the car will idle.
The engine features a intake valve cover vent that goes back into the front of the throttle body. After time, the vent tube deposits a lot of oil and gunk in the throttle body assembly and just behind it into the intake manifold.

Replaced the battery in 2002 camry now it won't idle

When you replace battery in 2002 Camry ECM tries to reset to factory levels. The reason it will not idle is that the throttle body is dirty and ECM thinks it should be new!! Clean throttle body with cleaner that is safe for tbs and this will fix your idle problem.

2002 camry battery changed, dies in idle

Check the manufacture's Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) rating.  Some manufacturers recommend a minimum CCA.  If your CCA is below the manufacturer's specs, it can cause your car to run erratically.  This also can cause problems with your computer and give you faulty DTC's. (Diagnostic Trouble Codes - Service Engine Soon Light)  This especially causes problems with General Motors cars.  I'm always hearing of people with these problems.  Let me know how it works.

2002 camry battery changed, dies in idle

When you take your battery out and put a new one in all your computer controls have to be reset. You need to drive the car at 55 MPH for 2 min or so, stop, go through normal drive cycle, stop and go and then if it don't straighten out you need to clean the throttle body and the idle air control valve. Hope this helps. PHil
