Fails in the darK.even with the dimmer on max.?
the lamps are very dim, if tried in daylight
this is normal , even with bright mode set !

what does that mean?, you never said what they do wrong first. there are more than one PRND +/- lighted cell.
all are dead. ?
why not say full symptoms?
there are 11 GC models which one is it.?
there are 3 transmissions.
did you scan the PCm first to see if there are DTC error with said components.?
the shift box has a computer inside
and must get commands telling it what to do (light up)
scan it , yet, get P0706 errors?
when any transmission acts funny or its lamps
we scan it first. (or look like dog chasing his tail)
if compelled to dig in here) (scans show NOTHING)
remove bezel using plastic pry rods
then bezel is off

you get to look carefully to see if there are lamps there
some are LED. the shifter is near $300
so.....

reaction to changes in vehicle pitch.
Instrument Panel Dimmer
Rotate the center potion of the lever to the extreme
bottom position to fully dim the instrument panel lights
and prevent the interior lights from illuminating when a
door is opened.
Rotate the center portion of the lever up to increase the
brightness of the instrument panel lights when the parking
lights or headlights are on.
Rotate the center portion of the lever upward to the next
detent position to brighten the odometer and radio when
the parking lights or headlights are on.
Rotate the center portion of the lever upward to the last
detent to turn on the interior lighting.
