Question about 1997 Buick LeSabre

1997 Buick LeSabre Limited Edition, Dash vents do not blow air

The controls function, air goes from bottom to windshield as supposed to according to setting but air stopped coming out of the dash vents. Happaned right after I was changing settings and hear a plastic rattling noise tic tic tic clack clakc. This is when dash stopped blowing air. Inspected vacuum diverters, they all excep one change position as settings are changed. The one that does not move, when moved by hand will supply air to the dash vents. Inspected vacuum lines to the vacuum junction, It has 5 lines and 1 plug. Since 4 out of 5 lines work and the line itself is good I do not think it is a vacuum issue. The diverter that does not move is all the way on top behind the dash, can't get to clip to remove it. Any tricks on how to get to it?

Thanks gm-tek 561, I have more info since I posted. I swapped the floor and dash vacuum hoses at the valves, now the dash blows, the floor does not. I am back to the vacuum control unit now. How do I remove it? Seems I have to drop the dash completely to get at it. Is this correct or is there another way? Also, the heat/AC control panel's display was out when problem happaned. Power resistors solder let go. Fixed it first, now display operates. I'm an electronic guy, this I could fix. The vacuum distributor also has a PC board in it, I see it from the holes in the assembly, but so far could not get it out for testing.

Ck to see if the mode vaccum actuator is getting vaccum, you will need to test actuator with a hand held vaccum gun, if actuator has failed you will need to replace, if actuator holds vaccum and it does not move the door your door may be out of position inside case or something could hold it locked in position. you will need to check door by hand to see if it moves freely.

I have a 98 Buick Lesabre Limited. It blows Cool air, but not Cold. And also, I can't seem to make it blow out of the Center Dash Vents.

Cornelius, vent problem could be a pinched or loose vacuum line on controller, faulty AC vacuum motor, faulty AC programmer, etc. needs to be checked out by a good Tech, diagnosed and estimate on repair.
As far as vehicle only blowing cool air, issue could be blend door issue, plugged AC condenser core dirt/debris, low AC refrigerant, plugged AC lines internal, failing compressor, etc., again should be checked out, diagnosed and estimate for repair by a good Tech.
Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Air won't come out the dash vents it comes out floor and windshield on buick lesabre 1997

That problem is usually caused by the little vacuum line that controls it being disconnected in the engine compartment. Look around the firewall near the middle.

Air doesn't blow out of dash vents

If it has automatic climate controls.Look to either a blend door actuator or the ac programmer. A vacuum leak at the ac programmer or actuator can also cause this if they use vacuum.

The dash air vents on my 1995 Buick LaSabre do not seem to be blowing any air. Air flows only from the windshield and the floor. What could it be?

The distribution of the air flow works off a blend door which is operated by a motor. The motor is faulty or the mode switch in the control head were you set the mode settings is at fault

1999 Buick LeSabre - A/C blows only on windshield

Inside the heater box (under the dashboard) there are actuators that are similar to the ones that open your power door locks, they do go bad especially if any water leaks in from a bad heater core or windshield leak.(down the defrost vent grate). Also old age, my truck is a 2000 and I have replaced a couple of actuators.

Heater/ac door actuator isnt workin right. air coming out of bottom and top vent but not from the face vents. keep switchin control to switch vents. only goes to bottom and to the windshield vents.

Sounds like either the computer that controls the auto climate control has gone out or you could have a vacuum leak. I would definitely check the vacuum leak first. I took my 98 Lesabre to a repair shop several years ago for the same problem. When I picked it up they told me my computer was out and it would cost around $600 to fix. As an alternative, they had unhooked and rerouoted vacuum lines, breaking a tube off the controls under the right side of the dash. They told me that they would have to remove my glove box each spring and fall and reconnect the vacuum lines to change the airflow from floor to dash and vise versa. My fix was to run the lines under the dash just beneath the ash tray and connect shut off valves to the vacuum lines. Now when I need to use the AC I can change the flow of the vacuum by simply turning these two valves so that the flow changes from floor to dash or back. I know this is pretty jack leg but the damage had been done and this has actually worked pretty good.
