Question about Mazda MX-5 Miata
Hi there... Usually no major damage if oil was new and overfilled a little, however, it can be dependant on car model. Are you sure the clanging noise was coming from the motor itself? You will need to drain off some of the excess oil before running it again at the right oil level. Too much oil can make the engine work harder of course, but it needs to be determined where the "clanging" noise is coming from to determine if it is related to the oil overfill or not. But definiately drain off the excess oil so the oil level is correct. And maybe consider a new mechanic, as he obviously didn't check the level after filling it to see it was correct, and not too low, or too HIGh as in your case.
