Question about 1993 Lincoln Town Car

1 Answer

My car will start but not run. It revs up but thats it. The starter and alternator have been replaced on on it within the last 6 months so we don't know what could be wrong with it. I was driving and it just stopped moving, still running at the time. After it would start and kick over but then stop running. Now it only revs and won't kick into running mode. Any insight would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks, Frana Grant

I have a 2005 Hyundai Tuscon. Both my battery & brake indicator lights came on my dashboard while driving. Just replaced alternator, battery & starter within the last month. The car was running fine.

brake indicator could be low reservoir level
take it back to where you got the alternator and have it all tested
it could be a problem voltage regulator that is causing a problem in the ECM resulting in the lights

'01 Park Ave. base model will not start fuel pump and starter replaced alternator and battery tested good?

It sounds like a bad crank sensor or a cam sensor, regardless your first step before throwing anymore parts into it is to have it scanned. This will a least narrow the problem down to a specific area.
Ask for a print out of the scan. good luck

Check system for shorts. I have a 02 Sport that I am on my 6th alternator since last November, 2010. The last time, my car broke down outside of Natchez and I had a shade tree mechanic work on the car. He found several corroded & frayed ground wire connections. I don't know if this will solve my problem, but it's probably worth the check.

check for vacume leaks listen for a hissing sound if you here one but cant pin point it you can use a spray bottle of gas of can of ether both very flamable so be gentle and spray around the sound when the engine revs up theres your leak thats where i would start

I bought a new alternator for my 1990 oldsmobile and my car was running fine. A couple of months later i was coming home from work and my car had a hard time starting so when i got home i shut the car off...

You need to check if your alternator is charging. Buy a cheap volt meter from Harbor Freight for $3.
The battery should normally have about 12.3 volts.
When you crank the starter, it should drop down to about 10 volts. Once it starts, by jumping, it should go above 12.3, and as high as 13.5 when you rev the engine. If it never goes over 12.3, the batter will never get charges, and will eventually run down. But the alternator should have an automatic 12 month warranty. Take it back to them. And yes, running the windshield wipers will draw more current.

1999 Mercury Cougar has problems starting

I would check all of the connections to and from the alternator and starter, plus the grounds, they could be corroded or have weak connection, as far as no power going up a hill, check the map sensor
