Time to meter voltage. Start with the 12V circuit. Are you getting voltage at the coil. Does the voltage fluctuate when the engine cranks? If yes to both check the high voltage circuit. Start with the coil then the distributor then each plug. You should be able to find where the spark is failing.

Wat is a distributor on a car


A key part of the ignition system, on engines that still have the distributor. It "distributes" the high voltage current (for spark at the spark plug) from the coil, where the high voltage is generated, to each spark plug wire in turn in the firing order for the engine.
The distributor is a mechanical functioning part from way back that has been replaced by electronic controls in distributorless ignition systems.

That would be the ignition coil, the part that creates spark at the spark plug. If you follow the electrical path from the coil wire to the distributor cap, and from there, the spinning rotor just under the distributor cap carries the path from the coil wire at the cap's center to the spark plug wires around the dist. cap, and through the plug wire to the spark plug.
The high voltage causing the spark is created in the ignition coil by the engine computer at the precise right moment signaling an ignition module to cut 12 volts current to the ignition coil. This causes the coil to internally build up high voltage which is passed through the coil to distributor cap wire. The computer knows the precise right moment to initiate spark from engine sensors, primarily the crank position sensor and the cam position sensor.

If your engine cranks normally but will not start and cuts off because it has no spark, or it stalls and won't restart because it has no spark, the problem may be due to any of the following:
A bad pickup inside the distributor a stripped distributor drive gear (common problem with plastic distributor drive gears, broken, loose or corroded wires from the pickup to the ignition module or PCM.
If there is power going from the coil to the dist, but no spark coming out of the dist. the Condenser is bad. Small round thing that has a wire that hooks to the points. If the engine has no spark, check for voltage at the coil positive terminal when the ignition key is on.
If there is voltage, the problem is on the trigger side of the coil (pickup, crank sensor, ignition module or primary wiring circuit).
If there is NO voltage at the coil, the problem is on the supply side (the ignition switch or ignition wiring circuit).
If the coil has voltage, the problem may be a bad high voltage output wire from the coil to the distributor, hairline cracks in the coil output tower, or cracks or carbon tracks inside the distributor cap or on the rotor.You can check this with voltmeter.------------------

1984 Ford F150 turning over but not getting fire


Good battery, good starter. Leaves spark and fuel.
1. Remove 1 spark plug wire from a plug. Hold near engine block while someone "cranks" the engine.
- Spark (yes/no)
If yes, issue is fuel. If no, remove distributor cap and check for cracks. Also clean inside to remove rust and dirt. Besure that inside of distributor cap is reasonably clean and rust free. After that, reinstall cap.
Try to start engine. IF it is exactly same symptom.....
Check input voltage to coil (high voltage source for distributor). Is 12volts present? If not, troubleshoot wiring between battery source and coil. Be sure to include the fuse for "ignition" in fuse box.
If yes.....Confirm high voltage is present at center (input) wire to distributor (CAUTION:- 30,000 volts could be present... do NOT touch bare wire.) Use insulated plyers or similar to place this center wire near engine block to check for spark. Note that this voltage source is powered on as soon as the ignition key is in the "run" position.

Replace coil if no high voltage is coming out. Replace distributor cap and rotor if high voltage is coming in to it, but not leaving and getting to spark plugs.

Confirm fuel is getting to intake.
I spray starting fluid into intake while cranking engine. It will "fire" if all else is good.
If it "pops" or fires, then you have a fuel feed problem... between tank and intake manifold, shoot fuel filter, fuel pump and otherwise confirm that gas is moving to intake from gas tank.

Where does spark come from coil or dist


The primary voltage signal that produces the spark in the ignition coil comes from the distributor, but the secondary voltage that actually fires the spark plugs does come from the ignition coil, and then it is sent to the distributor usually through a coil wire where it is "distributed" out to the correct spark plug.

No spark


There's no emergence switch, if there was it would only be for fuel and not spark, there four thing to get spark,
ignition control module, ignition coil, distributor pick up assembly and spark plug wire's check for spark at coil, more then likely it's going to be your distributor pick up assembly, the pick up sit in side your ignition distributor, replace it and it will start, hope this was very helpful.

Changed coil and distributor cap, still my engine has no spark


Here are 2 things to check. With the distributor cap off crank the engine. Does the rotor turn? If it's not turning you may have a broken timing chain. If your timing chain is ok then the problem may be the ignition module. This is usually located at the base of the distributor and it will have several wires running into it. The ignition module converts the DC battery voltage into an AC voltage that the ignition coil transforms up to a much higher voltage that will be sent out to the spark plugs through the distributor. I hope this helps you out.

YOUR CAR ONLY HAS COIL PACKS. CHECK VOLTAGE AT HARNNESS, IF OK REMOVE COIL PACK FROM SPARK PLUG REMOVE BOOT CHECK FOR VOLTAGE THERE, IF NONE POSS. COIL PACK.

Spark is not bright blue from distributor


Change out the high voltage wiring to the plugs and to the coil. If no help, change the coil. Make sure to use a clean spark plug to check the spark.
