Question about 2006 Subaru Outback

2006 Subaru Outback CD won't advance,speaker pops,radio shuts off

I bought a used 2006 Subaru Outback LL Bean sedan and when I try to advance the tracks on the CD player, it will randomly go to the middle of another track. Same thing happens when I try to go back to the previous tracks, it just randomly goes to the middle of another song. This is happening on all 6 discs.

here's the strangest thing, after about 15 minutes of using the CD player, the speakers pop, the radio AND the AC shut down.

When I just use the FM radio, it never does that.

What's going on?

basically, everything on the center console (head unit, AC) flickers, then shut down. Do you think the problem will go away if I just replaced the head unit?

Too much power is being pulled through the radio while you are playing cds and it is going into a protection mode which is shutting off power to everything in the immediate dash area it would seem. I would take the radio to an audio store to see why. Do all of the controls in that area stop working during this problem?

I would assume the head unit is causing the problem by the sounds of it, so if you switch it out, then it should be fixed.

1997 Subaru Outback Overheating, 129,000 miles

it sounds like the thermostat is sticking and i agree with the mechanic that that should cure the problem. If you still have plenty of fluid in the radiator that rules out a leak and if you had the timing belt replaced then the mechanic should have done the water pump along with the timing belt.So that leaves only one thing and that is the thermostat.
