Question about 2000 Honda Accord

2 Answers

I have a 2000 Honda Accord V6. After sitting in sun on very hot day, it will not start. Or on short trips on a hot day, it won't restart. If I let it sit it might start again, but not always. It seems to me to be heat related (Oklahoma). What should I be looking for? And what can I do to fix it? jh

Check your main relay. earlier models had same trouble......listen to see if you can hear your fuel pump when you turn your key.

Can you jumper the fuel pump and make it start and continue to run ?
Have you checked to see if you are getting spark when it won't start ?
Could be a relay or coil, ignition module, or other component.

I just failed smog and the technician said that it was either the EGR valve or the catalytic converter that caused it to fail. at the same time when i let the car sit in the outdoors at work in the sun...

Have your main power relay replaced. It's what is causing your hard start, after the car is hot, especially sitting in the sun. It's located under the driver's side dash. As for the reason why you failed smog, could be the two you listed.

I have a 97 Honda Accord that stalls in warm/hot weather after it had been sitting in a parking lot for 6-8 hours in the afternoon; never in the morning and never in the evening. It usually starts right up...

there's a main relay or fuel pump relay located under the dash on driver's side. this relay goes bad all the times. it usually goes bad when you leave the car in a hot sun, next time keep your window down to see if it will start.

Car starts fine sometimes, runs great. Other times it turns over good but doesn't want to start. Almost sounds like it is flooded.

Hi there,

Honda has a problem in hot weather... If you car has been setting in the sun.... Especially a black car... .and it fails to start..... Cranks over but will not start.... Open the hood and let it sit for about 5 minutes and then try to restart it...... If it works you know that the problem occurs from an over temp in probably the ignition module..... There is also a module on the car that is refered to as the MAIN Power Module... This module has been known to have bad soldering points. If your problem is only related to starting it could be the Main Module.

Hope this helps...........
thanx for using Fixya
have a good day

take care...
