Disconnect the battery for a few minutes. It will reset. If it goes back to limp mode, Have the codes read, Some code reader will. Most times it has to be a scanner.

Change the output speed sensor as well and clear the vehicle codes either via a scanner or disconnecting the battery. Also make sure the transmission is at the proper fluid level.

SOURCE: I have a 2001 Chrysler

Many times on Chrysler products, one or both of the speed sensors screwed into the front of the transmission will fail, and cause the tcm to go to limp mode. Also make sure you have power to the tcm. Someone with a scanner can check these for you, or the speed sensors are less than 20 bucks each, replace them both and cross your fingers. If the transmission has internal problems, the tcm will sense this and go into limp-mode as well.

SOURCE: reset dodge magnium in limp mode

Limp mode can be reset as eaily as shutting off the car and restarting it. the computer will then retest the system, if the problem is gone you will not go into limp mode. but if the problem is still evident, you will have to have it repaired before it will work properly.

Get a readout of the ODB codes - if the Transmission Control Module (TCM) is setting the limp mode, it's picked up something that could damage the transmission, and it should set a code. It's read with the same tool used to get engine error codes. Otherwise, you'll spend a lot of time and money guessing, as you already have done. Here's a link to an example posted on a Dodge Charger forum:

I have a 2006 charger rt. We had tcm remanned and now the tcm cannot be found by computer. The bas, esp, and tps lights are all on and wont go out. Car wont shift out of first. What should we do?

You will need to reset the computer, find reset button or disconnect battery and cycle through the start and shift process, then leave disconnected, overnight if possible or at least 2 hours, before reconnecting, start and let idle for 5 minutes before shifting to drive, then drive car on open road and give a firm push to the throttle, try manual shift, if no go, inspect tcm.

My 1997 Dodge Stratus is stuck in limp mode, second gear forward or reverse. It doesn't have a speedometer display or the tachometer most of the time. I replaced the output speed sensor and the Tr

Its not likely the transmission is causing the problem if both the speedo and tach are out. The tach does not involve the transmission.
Sounds more like a problem with the instrument cluster or the body computer.
You may have to get a used shop manual to get the wiring diagrams and testing procedures.

if its stay in second speed the computer put the tramission in limp mode because there a problem in the trasmission you need to get your van pass on a scanner to see the code it could simply be the input or output sensor there sensor on the transmission and to reset that simply disconnect the battery for 2 minute after you see your trams will change all speed let me no and thanks for using fixya

My 1998 dodge avenger automatic will not shift out of second what will cause this the computer i hooked it up to just gave me these codes po733, po700, po734 the motor is a 2.5

code po700 is what the pcm gets from the tcm when there is a problem with the transmission-anywhere from fluid level, sensor, solenoid, tcm problem, or mechanical problem.
the situation you have with the car being in 2nd gear is called "limp-in" mode. so you can limp-in to a repair center.

94 dodge intrepid won't start.

Sounds like trans range switch. It is stuck in 2nd because it has a trans code in the tcm. Chrysler calls this (limp-in mode). You need to scan the tcm for codes, It likely has a code for the range switch. Hope this helps. By the way the range switch is also the neutral safety switch for the starter.
