I bought a 1997 Cadillac Catera and the oil is milky looking. I am told it could be the head gasket. However it runs very rough and acts like it wants to blow up when pushed past 45mph. car not smokin

You should not be running it like that. The problem is the engine coolant is leaking into the oil. There is no doubt about that .The cause is a failed head gasket , cracked head or cylinder. You running the engine like that are putting bad oil into places that it is not supposed to be. Besides rust and overflow, you will cause excess wear.

Oil in coolant problems on my 2001 cadillac catera?

Sounds like the head-gasket blew and allowed oil into the coolant and coolant into the oil. Unfortunately, it's time for a tear-down and rebuild of the engine.

Head gasket or something simpler? 98 cadillac overheats and the coolant is gone with no visible leaks

You bought a car with a failed head gasket or crack in the block

What makes 98 cadillac deville, no accelleration power, over heats and runs rough

May be a blown head gasket. Check your oil and see how it looks- milky looking oil after it's been running indicates water/coolant in your oil.

Milky oil

This is what you get when water and oil mix together, your most likely cause is head gasket failed
Hope this helps

Engine runs rough also how can you check to see whether if i have a blown head gasket. it also has no fans running to cool the coolant

Sounds like the overheating condition has blown the head gasket, if compression or oil/antifreeze mixing is evident.

Running an engine with no fan to cool the radiator is a common cause of blown head gaskets. yes.
