Do you have a leak? Freon is self consuming to a point and a small sum always leaks into the compressor housing itself. Get a can or two of R-34 and follow the directions on the can. The short hose, attached to the can, has a fitting that will only fit the suction side fitting in the system. Locate the charging and discharge ports for your A/C system under the hood. They are usually located near the compressor or sometimes near the housing where the A/C system goes through the firewall. READ ALL THE DIRECTIONS ON THE CAN FIRST!!) You only want to charge an automotive Freon system using the Freon GAS ONLY. NEVER invert the can so that liquid is ingested into the system! Freon expands at a tremendous rate and the charging should be noticeable right away with the system running as you do it. If the "coldness" goes away again within a day or a week, then you have a leak and it must be found and repaired or you will be just throwing money away to charge it again. FYI: The charging connection has a tiny bicycle valve stem type device in it. These do go bad and leak sometimes. AIR is not your friend in a Freon system, so make your connections quickly. DO NOT OVERCHARGE YOUR SYSTEM. READ EVERYTHING ON THE CAN. Ask the auto parts store clerk how much your car should require. It is measured in OUNCES. If this has helped, please rate me accordingly. Thanks and good luck.

How do you recharge the air conditioning?

Air conditioning uses CFC gasses to cool air. These gasses, should they be released into the atmosphere, could cause harm to the environment. Most countries mandate that a qualified person carry out the maintenance work.

If you live in a country that allows DIY AC recharging, there are kits available to cycle out old gas and cycle in new gas. You need to get the right refrigerant for your car, and most codes can be found online.

Air conditioning won't work on 2000 subaru outback

the most common cause of course is a low system refrigerent charge, this would be due to a leak, the most common cause of leakage is the front shaft seal of the AC compressor
