unless one of the driveshafts is not connected it can normaly mean its the master or slave cylinder or the clutch plate & presure plate.

Possible failure is the clutch cable or clutch master cylinder ( which ever you have )
if it is a cable the cable wears and strands of the cable jam in the case stopping the clutch pressure plate from engaging
if hydraulic the compensating post in the master cylinder becomes blocked and does not release the pressure to the clutch slave cylinder
The fix will be to replace which ever you have

Hi,I think its the clutch slave cylinder thats failed.if you look under the bonnet you will see two plastic cylinders with screw on lids side by side, undo the lids one at a time if the fluid is low or there is none at all, then your slave cylinder sills have failed, replace with other slave cylinder and bleed system.

  • Leah Olmstead Feb 12, 2016

So the slave cylinder will cause it to act like it's in neutral even when in gear and clutch released?

  • Bill Boyd Feb 12, 2016

if the slave cylinder is empty then you will not be able to get first gear without the grating noise , The problem will be in the master cylinder
and that is not your described problem

SOURCE: The fuel door release on 2003 Honda Accord is not working.

Open the trunk and pull back the drivers side liner inside of the trunk. You can follow the black cable to the fuel door. When you reach a black wing tipped connector you twist the 90 degrees and it will pop out and the door will open.
What was the original problem?

SOURCE: my 1997 honda accord will not shift out of

Inside the center console, on the side of the shifter, there is a neutral safety switch. You can replace it, or remove it. If you remove it, you will always be able to shift the gear, even with the car off, so its something to think about. But it can be done.

Clutch noise

It's time to change the clutch with entire kit. Release bearing, pilot bearing, clutch plate, pressure plate and get flywheel turned. If that bearing flies apart inside your transmission it will leave you stranded and your release fork will be destroyed possibly causing more damage to the transmission housing. It is hydraulic and if the master cylinder is working properly you're not likely to notice any play in the pedal due to release bearing.

Clutch needs to be pushed right down to change gear

Check that your clutch fluid reservoir has plenty of fluid and that there are no leaks in the system or from the bottom of the bell housing. If this OK then the clutch release arm and clutch plate will need to be checked. The release arm sits on a pivot on the inside of the bell housing and my guess is that the pivot has worn a hole through the release arm.

Clutch sticks to floor or is slow to release?

could be a couple of things check release bearing is not binding on output shaft or the arm which holds the release bearing is not bent or worn where it pivots also check where the arm pivots point is not worn out if all checks out replace the clutch pressure plate, clutch discs, throw out bearing and pilot bearing, one more thing is a clutch disc has some springs mounted to it to absorb some of the pressure when engaging the clutch and i have seen these springs come off and get in between the clutch assembly but usually when this happens you can feel and hear some grinding metal noise.but to check all the above the transmission will have to be removed.

I replaced a hydrolic clutch on a 1988 prelude. I don,t know how to bleed the system. Help?????

you need 2 people, 1 with a spanner on the bleeder and the other to pump the clutch. fill the fluid canaster, pump the clutch, with the bleeder shut, then hold the clutch down then undo the bleeder, without releasing the clutch, allow the clutch to go to the floor air will come out, then tighten the bleeder, then you can release the clutch, keep repeating until you have a stream of fluid and no air, always make sure you have done up the bleeder before you release the clutch, and mke sure you have fluid in the canaster.
