The condenser is clogged with bugs and dirt. (the silver one that looks like a radiator in front of the radiator) or your just low on freon.

Hi,
Likely an exhaust heat shield. When the SUV is cold - after sitting for 4+ hours - crawl under the vehicle and see if any of the shields are loose that cover the exhaust pipes. If they are you can use sheet metal screws screwed into the shield and against the exhaust pipeto 'wedge' the shield so it doesn't move.

Because you disconnected the battery you lost the long trim value,you will now have to relearn the idle,start the vehicle idle it to 1500 RPM,hold for a minute,idle should stabilize,turn on A/C let it idle,for a minute,now your done,

I have a 30ltr TDI quattro that smokes when it idles for than a few minutes


This car doesn't have coils and wires, it's gasoil. The most likely reason is the piezo injectors are worn. The best way to test is with VCDS
After an overnight stationary period drive the vehicle with cold engine between 1200 - 1600 rpm till the complaint occurs. Constantly read the measured value block 13 and 14 for the smooth running control in the engine control unit. The values of one or several cylinders should noticeably move to positive.

Replace the injector with the highest deviation and all injectors produced between 1.3.2006 and 30.4.2006.

Labored start and runs while accelerator is pressed. Shuts off immeditely if you release the accelerator.


Check to see if the IAC (idle control valve) is stuck in the bore of the throttle body. you can do this by;

remove the air snorkel from the throttle body.

locate the IAC, it will be round, sometimes silver or gold metal color, an have 4 or five wires on the connector.

You should see a passage in the throttle body near where the IAC is located. look in that passage and see if you can see the pintle of the IAC.

Use a small screwdriver and gently push the pintle of the IAC towards the IAC body. Once it is moved back try starting. Be ready to turn the engine off if the idle goes to high.

If the idle goes up tan remove the IAC (usually two torx screws). Carefully inspect the pintle. If the head looks worn replace it. If it is covered in carbon clean it with carb spray. Also clean out the passage with carb spray. Reinstall the IAC (new or used). Cycle the key a couple of times with out starting the vehicle. This will allow the pintle to move closer to the idle position. Start the vehicle.

My truck starts and stalls and will not idle


Try increasing the idle speed. If you don't know, this is how to do it.
Open the bonnet and ask someone to push and release the gas pedal a five second intervals.
Observe which part is moving.
Yo will see a small adjustment screw on that lever. You will understand that by adjusting the screw you can increase the gas supply to the engine.
Slowly rotate the screw while the engine is running. (If the engine doesn't run in idle state as you have explained, ask someone to keep the pedal slightly pressed. After increasing the gas supply, ask the person to release the pedal).
Adjust it further to get a smooth running condition at idling.
Also check whether air cleaner is blocked.

Rough idle then stalls


Vacume leak or bad idle motor. With the car in park and running with the hood open listen for leaks moving your hand around the different hoses looking for a change in the sounds that you hear. The idel motor also makes the car idel up to 1500 RPM or so right at start-up then idel down, If it doesn;t the idel motor is likly. Check engine light is on when running? Test for codes, Follow code test charts don't skip any steps!.
