I'm not a trans specialist but did plenty of trans work, ASE cert.#1- If the trans was way overdue for a service, all the ground metal that comes out with that flush & filter svc may have been holding things together in the trans now may be damaged trans. Use the proper type fluid? Air in system. Faulty trans pump? Any CE lights? RE; Long shot but possible emissions or clogging exhaust. Good luck. Sounds like faulty trans

Transmission (1994 astro van ) shifts fine sometimes and other times feels like it stuck in 4th gear. i changed the filter and flushed the trans.Whats up with that?

Its more likely the tranny shift solenoids or the power wire going to the tranny. If the tranny loses its ignition feed (12Volts) it will default into limp home mode. This means neither shift solenoid has power and will be in the off position. When both shift solenoids are in the off position this is normally third gear. It will be very labored taking off from a stop being in third gear, but will allow you to still move (thus limp home). Astro vans were not known for it, however full size pickups with the same engine and tranny, would experience a bad ignition switch. It would disable the tranny circuit and no power would get to it, same symptoms. If it sometimes works it won't be a bad fuse, best to have it diagnosed at a reliable transmission shop to verify. Its not as expensive as a tranny overhaul.

My transmission wont shift out of 2nd unless you stomp it to 4000 rpm and let off

Sounds like your shift solenoid is sticking. Check your fluid level first. The next logical step is a filter change. You could be getting low pressure from a clogged filter. The next thing to try is a power flush on the system. If none of that works. Then it's time to R&R the tranny because is one solenoid is sticking, they all will start soon. Just so you know, I had the same problem in my Durango and a new filter cleared it right up. Mine was a 98 and I sold it with 179k on the original transmission. That tranny is generally bulletproof, but you have to keep up with the filter changes and fluid changes. And it's a good practice to change the gear oil in the differentials when you change the tranny filter. That way you have a well lubed drivetrain and you can eliminate the issues related to neglected drive components. Then the next time you do it, you will know how long it's been for each. Good luck.

Our 1998 chevy cavalier z24 slams into gear from neutral to drive and second gear to third gear. when it's in park and i put my foot on the gas the rpms don't increas steadily...it increases and decreases...

You need to take it to the shop to be repaired this is not going to be an easy fix. It is probably going to have something with shift solenoids or fluid pressure. Have the tranny serviced by replacing the filter and flushing out the system.

My 95 olds cutlass v6 3.1L sometimes wont shift out of third gear and it just completely shut off on the thruway... what does this mean?

Its possibly a bad shift solonoid on the trans itself. These trannys' 4T60E have 3 solonoids for shifting 1 for 1st and 2nd, 1 for 2nd to 3rd, and 1 for 3rd to overdrive. Its quite possible that the valve is sticking in the valve body. This can be a somewhat difficult job to do. But the solonoids arent that expensive. I would suggest a trans fluid flush and a new screen/filter and see if that helps. If you take it to a dealer the solonoid/s replacement will be around $800 or more.

Car stuck in gear

Is it an automatic or standard? If it's standard, check the shifter cable, automatic, I would do a fluid flush, change the tranny filter, and make sure the pan isn't bent. I know someone who had the same problem, they thought they needed a new tranny, but they just needed a new filter (cost a couple bucks at the auto parts store), and then they noticed the pan was bent, which wasn't allowing clearance for the larger gears to be engaged.
