There are 2 set screws in the ends of the light, remove these 2 screws, open hatch and look where the wire runs pull rubber grommet seal and disconnect wire at connector, careful that other end does not pull back in, i tie string on it before disconnecting so i cant loose connector inside. then close hatch and carefully pull up 3rd light (it is held by double sided sticky tape) clean surface with wd40 and then windex to remove goo from old tape put wire through on new 3rd light and connect wires, peal covers off sticky tape align press down and replace screws. suggest ordering 3rd light from internet it is lot cheaper than GM

The third brake light works the main brake lights don't work ?

The outer brake lights work off the brake light switch mounted by the brake pedal so that will need to be replaced. The 3rd brake lamp is powered by another source with a power inverter that runs up the voltage somewhat for the lights are light emitting diodes instead

No brake lights , everything else works

Sounds like your brake light switch, located on the brake pedal, has gone out. Shouldn't cost to much at auto parts store. Thanks for using fixya.

All lights work, except the brake /tail lights, the L.E.D. brake light on top works

The third break lights are LED and the circuit board may have gone bad or the solder may have gone bad. The circuit board is built in the third brake light and is a seal unit. You may have to replace the unit, there is a relay for the third brake light and that is located on the glove box behind the panel that say's relays. There are three relays in there, the center is for the fuel pump and the two out side are for the A/C and third brake light. Just swap them around and see if the brake lights come on. Good luck and keep me posted.

2001 chevy blazer all lights work except the brake lights. The third top light works but not the bottom. Bulbs are good and no fuses are out.

does the 4 ways work? if they do it would be the brake light switch at the brake peddle,,,,,,,,, if they dont the problem is in that red hazerd switch on your steering colum inside it has 3 spring loaded pads that make 3 electrical contacts each so 9 in all and they get sticky from dirt, dust & coffee and hot chocolite dumped on them and stick and burn out. and your brake lights stop working... I could tell you how to fix it but rather diagnose what it is first

Brake light on 2001 chevy blazer LT 2wd

When my blazer did this they had to replace part of the wiring harness in the steering wheel. It took forever for them to get the parts because we live in nowhereville, but once it was in it works again and no problems. I had to take it to the actual chevy dealer because none of the other places had a clue. good luck.
