What causes an error mssage of: Restart now or key is needed in a Ford Edge.

Driving 4. Start - press the START/STOP button (for any length of time) while applying the brake pedal. Note: The indicator light on the start button will illuminate when the vehicle is in on mode and when the engine is started. There may be areas inside your vehicle where the IA key is not detected. If the message NO KEY DETECTED appears on your message center when you press the START/STOP button, it may be necessary to move your IA key to another area within the vehicle. The IA key may not be detected near the roof (between the driver or passenger sunvisor and the roof, or in the overhead console area) or in the extreme corners of the rear package tray, near your audio speakers. It is not recommended that you stow the IA key in these locations. If you move the IA key to a location where it has been detected before and you still see the NO KEY DETECTED message, your IA key's battery may be low or you may be in an area with excessive radio frequency interference. If this occurs, you can use the back-up method to start your vehicle (see below). Back-up method of starting: Your IA key uses a radio frequency signal to communicate with your vehicle and authorize your vehicle to start when you press the START/STOP button and apply the brake pedal. If excessive radio frequency interference is present in the area, or if the battery in your IA key is low, it may be necessary to start your car by inserting the IA key in the back-up slot, located at the front of the center console storage compartment. Insert the IA key into the slot with buttons facing down and with key ring out. After inserting the IA key into the back-up slot, use the START/STOP button and brake pedal to start your vehicle as usual. The vehicle should respond normally as long as the IA key is in the back-up slot. Once the vehicle is started, the IA key can be removed from the back-up slot, if desired. Fast restart feature: The Fast Restart feature allows you to re-start your vehicle within 20 seconds of switching the vehicle off, if a valid IA key is not present when the vehicle is switched off. Check and see if the Brake lights work when you press the brake pedal. If the brake lights do not work, there is a switch on the brake pedal lever which prevents the starter from working. It often gets hit by a foot.

If the engine cranks but does not start, check the Inertia switch. It has a reset button on it. Check the Web for photos.

If you have another key, try it. The chip may have broken and lost its identity.

Vacuum leak from brake booster. If you hear a sucking noise when you press the brake pedal replace it. Another way to check it is to place truck in gear set e-brake press brake pedal repeatedly and see if idle goes up and down. DO NOT PRESS GAS PEDAL DURING TEST.

My right turning signal sometimes doesnt work. The light in the dash stays on, but doesnt flash. When this happens the front light stays on when the signal is applied, but the back one doent work. Ive...

  1. Turn 4 way (hazard) lights on check to see that all lights are flashing if rear is not flashing suspect bad ground since 4way usually goes through brake light.
  2. If everything flashes you may have a bad flasher relay find it replace it.
  3. If light still will not flash check light socket by removing bulb & looking for burnt melted contacts or plastic. You find any of these problems consider replacing socket.
  4. If you do not find any problems with socket use a cheap test prob connect alligator clip to metal ground near socket with bulb out turn on blinker carefully touch each contact inside socket when you find the right contact prob should light up & blink.
  5. If you cannot get prob to blink move prob ground to new location do step 4 again.
  6. If you still get no blink start probing wires coming into socket until prob lights working away from socket.
  7. Ground is on the side of the socket when you look in it.

Car starts with remote starter. The start procedure with key?

That car together with the alarm, have a "starter kill"relay. The alarm works fine but when the relay is "resting" the electrical contact is no letting the appropriate signal go through. Locate the relay and change it. Will cost you 8 dollars or less in any auto part.

Oil light

Hi lady d tilli,

Take off the fuse cover on the drivers side of the dash. there should be a bunch of fuses. in the middle is a red button that says "reset." turn your key to the on position, but DO NOT START. press the reset button until the change oil light blinks, then turn the key back off it should be fine after that. for the 05's theres somthing you have to do with the gas pedal. i think you do the same, by turning the key on but not starting...and then tapping the gas pedal 3 times.

Hope this helps a bit,
Good luck,
Eitan.
