Just look in the engine compartment (drivers side) and you'll see a plastic cover over some electrical relays. They are labled, one is for the fan, swap the fan relay with one that has the same exact diagram on the side of it. Turn on your air conditioner (the fan should always turn on with the air) if the fan turns on, replace the old relay for a few bucks.

You may have a bad relay. Have you tested it to see if it is working or have you changed it out with a new one?

The coolant fan dose not work on my 97 cavalier

The fan relay is grounded by the computer when the fan is needed.
The fan should come on when you turn on the ac or when the engine reaches 220 degrees.
If you know for a fact the fan should be on, someone would need to check the relay for power and ground then proceed to the fan motor.

I have a 98 chevy cavalier and when i turn it on my engine fan spins but then stops.. but i have seen other car when they started the engine their fan keep up spining. why does my car does that?

is your car overheating???the fan isnt suppose to run when started(unless engine is hot), it may turn on then shut off. See if it runs when the vehicle gets hot and the A/C is on. Those engines with fans that move all the the time are belt driven. This is why they spin continually.

Engine overheat

Check the coolent in the 97 cavalier it takes the orange coolent not the green stuff. If you do have green coolent in it you will have to flush the radiator a few times before adding the new coolent.

Only way it would work is to do the 01 conversion by switching the whole doghouse (fenders, hood, bumper, lights, etc.) It can be done though.
