Change the window regulator

I took the van to the dealer to see if they can fix my passenger window and they told me the problem was the window regulator.
The part cost me $46.00 and the dealer want $500.00 to install it, THAT IS CRAZY.
Can somebody tell me how I can change the window regulator, I don't think that is that hard the excange, to charge me $500.00 for labor only.
Thank you,
Abel

I have only replaced them a in a 94 maxima (all 4 - or maybe it was on only 3).

I am guessing they are similar. Basically you pop off (gently pry in the right spot) the interior door panels and loosen a few bolts and **** the moisture barrier.

Here is a good link for my car http://www.a1electric.com/maximareg.htm

Well $46.00 sounds on the low side for a new regulator, but if that is the price it will be hard to find one cheaper and an OEM is usually the best fit. However I find that a glass shop, where they replace auto glass as well as store/home windows, is the best and cheapest place to change a regulator. I recently had a power regulator replaced for $40 labor at a glass shop. Also there may be special tools or large rivets needed and the shop will have those readily on hand. Auto body shops also may do this service.

Replacing window regulator on the front passenger side

I had the same problem with a BMW that I had. On mine the actual wire broke. It has to be the wire or the clips. If you can't get to the dealer may have to be contacted. They have special tools to do this type of fix. This is done on purpose by the manufacturer so that you have to go to them for repairs. Sorry.

You have to replace the broken window regulator

I doubt the dealer did a thing but took your money

You can't just put the so called clips back on, as they
are part of the regulator & are broken

Stay away from dealers

You never let anyone inside your vehicle doors, to do
window regulators or motor repairs & you never let anyone
fabricate brake tubing, their all butchers, you do thoses jobs
yourself

No repair was ever made at the dealer

Power windows go down part way and start clicking without moving

I had the same thing with my driver side window. I took the door panel off and did not see any physical damge. But if I ran my hand along the regulator track, I would feel the cable had started to fray and come apart. The clicking was the cable within the spool that winds up as you use the window rubbing against the plastic. My van is a 2000 and I was able to find a .pdf of the Dealer repair manual online, only one page talks about the regulators and shows for a manual setup. But it made the mounting screw locations easier to find. Go to you-tube and type in your car make and year with something like, "how to replace a window regulator". I was lucky enough to find one for my van. In my case, the space you are working with is extremely tight, but I was able to get it all back together and it works great. I just fixed it yesterday, BTW, just wanted to pass on the good fortune.

You can pull the panel and move the window regulator manually to put the window back up. If you can get that far you may as well get the regulator from a boneyard an put it in. You will need a grinder to get the rivets out and some bolts to put it back in. If you don't change the regulator, make sure you unplug the motor inside the door because it may work in "down" mode but not up. You don't want to have to do it again. Or you could check Ebay for the regulator. Good luck.

contact the place where the tire was changed and let them know that they damaged the TPMS sensors. If they have a grain of integrity, they'll make it right.

Drivers side power window wont work

I'm not sure if I had the same problem, the window was still working but made a scraping clicking noise. This is how I fixed my van window.

94 Lumina Van Passenger Window

I would plan on a new motor, to chage it yourself may be more than you want to do. To change the motor you will need to remove the regulator that is the devise that attaches to the window and rolls it up and down. Once you have it out of the door the motor bolts to it. (if this van has the cable driven regulator it will be easier to change out)
