Question about 1996 Chrysler Concorde

How do I no if my chrysler concorde steering gear is with variable assist or with out? Where is the module or chip to no if it it's hooked to the gear box or not?

If you look at the top were shaft from inside car meets gear you will see an electrical connector plug in to it that variable assist.

How do I change a 1996 Chrysler concorde power steering hose?


STEERING SYSTEM - POWER -1996 Chrysler Concorde LX

POWER STEERING PRESSURE HOSE

Removal

WARNING: On models with Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), before any repairs are performed, disconnect and isolate battery ground cable. Failure to do so could result in accidental deployment of the air bag and possible personal injury.


1. Turn front wheels to straight-ahead position. Disconnect and isolate negative battery cable. On 3.5L engine, disconnect throttle cable from throttle body and cable bracket. On all models, remove wiper arms from wiper arm pivots. Remove 6 screws, cowl closure panel and weatherstrip as an assembly. 3. Disconnect air plenum from throttle body, PCV air tube and idle air control motor. Remove air plenum from right side of vehicle. Disconnect wiper module wiring harness. Remove wiper module from cowl panel. Remove power brake booster vacuum hose from intake manifold. Position hose aside. 4. On 3.5L models, disconnect and remove air inlet ducting to throttle bodies. Remove vacuum supply hose from power booster. Remove 2 nuts and remove brake master cylinder from power booster, with hydraulic lines connected, from power brake booster. Carefully position master cylinder against left shock tower. (REMOVE brake master cylinder only if it's in your way) 5. Remove P/S pressure hose and return hose from P/S gear. If equipped with speed proportional steering, disconnect electrical connectors from solenoid control module. Under number 5 above, only remove what you have to get out of your way, in order to remove the line that's leaking. If I remember right, the low pressure line comes off first. You may need to remove that big solenoid control module thing also, if it's in the way. A big crescent wrench I think is what I used on it. Or maybe it was a small crescent wrench with a large jaw.... Don't over tighten it when reinstalling. These things don't go in very tight. Neither do the lines. If in doubt, look up the torque spec on them first. The solenoid, I just put in a hair past snug. It didn't leak.

The pump side of the pressure line was a bear to get off of there. I finally cut it off. Then unscrewed part of the pump and the piece of the power steering line that was left hanging out. Put it in a bench vice, and wrenched them loose there. Put it back together with the new NAPA hose, and it works, and hasn't leaked a drop. Good Luck to you.

I know the numbering isn't quite right. That's because I borrowed this writeup from a post regarding power steering rack replacement, and edited it up to fit your situation. If you google the power steering rack replacement, you may find the torque specs for the power steering lines there. But you'll still have to use your arm as the torque wrench....

You either have a TCM (Transmission Control Module) issus, or the electronics in the transmission has failed.

Some chrysler vehicle have a button in front of the ignition on the steering column that has to be pushed to remove the key other wise replced the ignition cylinder itself

the hook up for that is on the drivers side under the steering wheel under the kick panel.

I NEED TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING PRESSURE SENSOR BUT I NEED A DIAGRAM OF WHERE IT WOULD BE ON A 99 CRHYSLER CONCORDE

The power steering pressure switch is mounted in the pressure line between the steering gear and the steering pump.
Just follow the line from the pump and you'll find it.

I have a cousin with a shop in Montreal and he is having a problem with a 01 bmw 740 il,so im posting for him,the power steering shuts down when pulling into a parking spot or going slow,this vehicle has...


Power steering does not seem to have any assist when at a stop. Tests/Procedures: 1. The power steering assist is speed dependent and should be quite easy when stopped/low speeds. This is controlled by a solenoid on the side of the steering gear box.

2. Check for faults in all control modules. The general module is what controls current flow through the solenoid. Clear all faults and see if power steering operation is normal.

3. At the servo, check for power and ground from the general module. If none present, check wiring back to general module connector X254, pin 9, Black/White and pin 11, Black/Red.

4. Replace solenoid as necessary.

5. Disconnecting the solenoid will remove the variable assist function, but the steering system should still have considerable assist. If it does not with the solenoid disconnected, consider hydraulic faults as the most likely cause. A failed power steering pump is much more likely than the steering gear. Potential Causes: Defective General Module
Defective Power Steering Control Solenoid
Defective Power Steering Pump
Damaged Wiring
If your cousin has access to wiring diagrams he will be greatly advantaged in diagnosing this issue Good luck

Rack and pinion or steering kit


your vehicle has a transverse mounted engine and most newer vehicls have rack and pinion steering versus a shaft going to a gear box with a drag link and sway bar type steering system. most full size suvs have the gear box set up. some suvs like dodge durango have both a gear box and a rack and pinion. your vehicle has only the rack and pinion
