Question about 1988 Honda Accord 4 Door

'88 Honda Accord. Remove gas cap, will start sometimes

Seem to have a 'weak' fuel pump. Will start sometimes after removing the gas cap but not always. If let sit for an hour or so will start.
Is this a fuel pump issue, fuel filter issue or problem with power getting to the pump?

Haven't tested any of that. I have read on other sites that pre '90 Honda's have a problem with the fuel pump relay. Basically the outside temp gets too high and the relay doesn't work so the car won't start.
We're going to check this out and change the relay and the fuel filter.

this sounds more like a igntion module problem, have you tested the fuel pressure when it won't start, have you tested for spark?

IT SOUNDS LIKE FUEL INJECTORS. OR FUEL PUMP. START WITH REPLACING A 8 DOLLAR PART. THE FUEL FILTER. IF IT DOES IT AGIAN AFTER THAT. CHECK YOUR FUEL INJECTOR RAIL. IT HAS A FUEL PRESURE VALVE ON IT. PUSH IT IN. IF GAS DOES NOT COME OUT. THEN ITS YOUR FUEL PUMP. IF IT DOES COME OUT. THEN ITS YOUR FUEL INJECTORS. JAKE.B

Car won't start after it seemed like it ran out of gas. still have half a tank of gas. Where is the fuel pump located on a 96 honda accord?

The fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank itself. Remove the back seat and if you are lucky you can see the pump and remove it. Else you have to remove the gas tank from the car body then you can see and remove the pump. make sure you empty the tank before removing the gas tank.

Did you check #1 fuse 15 amp to see if it were blown? This fuse also controls the fuel pump. This Test procedure is from Mitchell Repair.

Fix fuel pump 91 honda accord

just remove the back seat, disconnect the battery, take off the gas cap to discharge the vapors. Then remove the plate that covers the fuel pump and disconnect the lines and electrical connectors. The only time you take off the gas tank if your replacing it. happying hunting!

your car needs a 'complete tuneup'. clean the EGR port, remove the throttle body and clean - don't just spray, its not enough, remove all vacuum hoses and clean and brush all ports that are connected to the plenum, remove anyports that are connected to the plenum and clean them also, remove the plenum and brush and clean the ******. if you have time, take out the intake manifold and clean also....and that should do it.
