You turned it the right way but will have to use an air impact to get it loose or a hammer to hit the ratchet or breaker bar with, you need a half inch drive breaker bar to get it loose and it will have to be in gear and the emergency brake on to get it loose.

You may have a reverse thread confirm by disconect coil wire or power plug to distributor and have an assistant turn the motor over while you observe standing in the front of the vehicle to determine crank pulley directional rotation, if when standing in the front of vehicle the rotation is counterclock wise the bolt unscrews counterclock wise (the usual) if the rotation is clockwise it is a reverse thread.

Which direction do i turn the harmonic balancer bolt to remove it on a 1997 honda civic 1.6 liter

Hi:
The harmonic balancer bolt is a normal bolt with right hand threads, so you need to turn it counter-clockwise.
The hardest part of the process is to keep the crankshaft from turning. An impact wrench is the easiest way to go, but if you don't have one, you can use a large strap wrench or chain wrench to hold the harmonic pulley. I use a section of an old belt to protect the pulley.

Crankshaft pully bolt removal

Crank pulley bolt tightens clock wise and loosens counter clock wise. You will need a puller to remove the balance as it has a keyway to hold it on.

I have a1993 Geo Storm, 1.6L engine, having problem getting the bolt on the crankshaft pulley loose. Is it a left hand thread or a right hand thread.

The crankshaft pulley bolt loosens by turning Counter-Clockwise. Ensure the pulley is secure from movement so that you can loosen the pulley bolt without turning over the engine. You may need to use breaker bar to loosen the pulley bolt, or at least a large wrench.

Which way do u turn the harmonic balancer bolt to remove it

gas engine :counter clock wise use penetrating oil let soak lefty loosey Diesel Engines

The 2.2L diesel engine utilizes an exposed crankshaft pulley and a hidden crankshaft timing pulley/damper. The following procedure may be used to remove the exposed crankshaft pulley.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  2. Loosen and remove the accessory drive belts.

  3. Turn the crankshaft pulley to align the timing mark with the engine pointer. This should be done if any further procedures are being performed which might disturb valve timing.

  4. Remove the retaining bolts, then remove the crankshaft pulley.

To install:

  1. Align and install the crankshaft pulley.

  2. Install the retaining bolts, then tighten to 10-17 ft. lbs. (14-23 Nm).

  3. Install the accessory drive belts, then properly adjust their tension.

  4. Connect the negative battery cable.

How to remove harmonic balancer pulley from 2000 Pontiac Montana- in what direction to turn the bolt?

Remove serpentine belt, to remove bolt turn counter clock wise, you will also need a Harmonic Balancer pulley tool, most auto part places will rent this tool out, good luck, hope this was very helpful.

they are usualy counter clockwise to remove bolt you must lock the flywheel so it dont turn while losening the bolt! when you remove the pully be carefull and see if there is a keyway on the crank or pulley so it dont fall into the oilpan!
