Question about 1986 Audi 4000 CS

Open Question

I have an '87 Audi 4000CS Quattro with turbo. For some reason the car idles really high (around 3000) and also when I'm driving on the highway the car will lose power and shut off and the fuel pump will get loud. It's a new fuel pump though. My friend said when my car was stalling it smelled like oil, he was driving behind me. Any help would be much appreciated. We bought this car for 1000 of Craigslist we're just hoping we didn't buy a lemon.

SOURCE: ok i have a 1990

Hello, I used to own a 1989 audi 200 turbo. These cars have a rather complicated fuel injection system called constant injection system (CIS 2). They can be difficult for most mechanics to figure out, unless they are already familiar with it. If you do bring it to a mechanic, try to find one that is familiar with these cars. And don't be afraid to get a second opinion. I had one mechanic claim that my car needed several thousand dollars worth of parts, another was able to fix it for under a hundred. The only suggestion I have is that it sounds like it is vacuum related. Good luck!

SOURCE: Oil questions for 2003 Audi A6 Quattro

oil type is either 5W-30W or 10W-30W depending how cold your climate is, as far as having the car properly taken care of, the Audi dealer is the best option, they have all the proper tools and service info needed to keep the car in top running condition.

SOURCE: 1996 Audi A4 Quattro has a noisy rear differential

It's the wheel bearing. Guaranteed. Just replaced mine. Go to Audiworld tech articles for step by step instructions on how to test the wheel bearings. They must have been put in wrong last time or they just went out again.

My Audi 1997 A4 1.8T Quattro dosent boost when I hit 3000 revs, it cuts out like Im red lining. Why is that?

Hi Ken, I believe you should take the vehicle for a diagnostic scan. It sounds as if the dump gate is defective and opening too soon and therefore not developing the boost required. The problem could also be related to a defective signal received by the management system and closing the injection system too early. Regards John

Hi this is not a problem but a question . Do i need to idle my cherokee 2.8 crd 2009 to let the turbo cool everytime i drive or just after highway driving ? Thank you

DEPENDS,if you drive hard, then let it idle, regardless of what type of roads.the turbo only gets really hot when you use more than 1/2 gas pedal constantly. to overtake or stop sign racing.

Audi A6 3.0 tdi Quattro 2005, glow plug light comes on, limp mode

16619 -Engine boost condition - Limit not reached. Check intake hoses/ connections for leaks. Check Turbo charger waste gate regulating valve/ waste gate working correctly. Must move freely when accelerating, won't achieve full boost if waste gate sticking open. Check Turbo impeller turning freely, oil feed pipe for turbo can get blocked causing impeller to seize. Engine compact, not easy to access these components.

1998 Audi Quattro V6: changed battery this a.m. but now stalls at idle and shifts erratically. No power at all. Tried driving it for an hour to let ECM re-learn, but no luck. Thanks, Mike.

MOST OF THE TIME BEST TO LET DEALERSHIP REPROGRAM IDLE BECAUSE STALLING AND WAITING FOR CAR TO RELEARN TO IDLE.CAN BE DANGEROUS.FOR A CAR STALLING OUT AROUND MOVING TRAFFIC.

High revs without power when I stomp on the gas

no this is more likley to be clutch slip assuming that your car has a manual gearbox this can be expensive but the good news is that it's nowhere near as expensive as a new turbo and fitting it..But you still need to employ a good local mechanic .Hope this has helped you
