antifreeze/water mix leaking in defroster/ "heater coil, fog may vapor from that, or reduced heat on window. it's a job for radiator pro. Once I tried radiator leak sealant which clogged my water pump and put more holes in the system. Another car another time responded well to the treatment but only briefly delayed the inevitable repair
Your heater core is located up behind your glove box. This is like a little radiator like under your hood. Air blows thru this to heat your car thru the heater. The liquid IS antifreeze, you have a leak in the system somewhere. The fog is humidity due to the leak.
You should look under the dash on the passenger side to see if there is any evidence of antifreeze on the bottom of the heater plenium. What usually starts as a small leak in the interior of the plenium will eventually lead to the heater core leaking all over the interior. You are getting steam and the smell becasue the is a small leak now inside that enclosure with the subsequent results.
The only part that has coolant running through it under the dash, is the heater core, when it goes bad, you will smell coolant and the window will fog up, leaking heater core, replace it be for it start's to over heat your engine and cause more problem's in the long run.
Sounds like a possible heater core failure(hole in it) the smell indicates to me the coolant(anti-freeze) is leaking into the passenger compartment. Check the carpet in front of the front passenger seat for moisture, this would confirm heater core leak. Good luck !
If your heater core was leaking you would have antifeeze coming thru your vents and putting a greasy film on your windshield. You would smell antifreeze the stongest if it was leaking onto a hot engine part. low antifreeze will cause bad heater performance, I would check by the thermostate housing, and the water pump for leaks
