A code P0171 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

  • The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters may cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where theMaf Sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry.
  • There could be a downstream vacuum leak of the MAF sensor. or a leaking intake manifold gasket or loose vacuum hose on the engine.
Possible solutions include:
  • In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
  • Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
  • Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure

Ford escort zx2's have a design flaw which causes the tube linking the crankcase to the intake manifold to burn through after a few years. this introduces a vacuum leak. you can easily check to see if this is your problem by spraying a good amount of starting fluid down around the engine, in the back and around to the front left, where the hose runs from and to. if it is bad, it will **** some of the vapors in and rev the engine for you.

2003 Ford F150 4.2 Ltr code P0171 and P0174 come upon diagnostic. It says fuel trim system lean on bank 1 and 2 What do I need to fix this problem

code p 0171 refers to system too lean bank 1===causes ---intake /exhaust leak---AIR system----MAF/VAF sensor---fuel pressure/pump---injectors/s--- heated oxygen sensor (HO2S in the exhaust manifold before the cat converter)
for this code the most likely fault will be the HO2S unit as it reads the exhaust gas composition and reports to the ECM so that the air/fuel ratio can be corrected
code p 0174 refers to system too lean bank 2===causes -same as for p 0171
fuel trim is what the ECM does after it receives an constant flow of information from all of the sensors and it alters the air / fuel ratio for the new parameters
you will have noticed a change in engine performance and fuel economy when driving at a constant speed over a distance or conversely a loss of economy when reverting to city driving
It also explains the advertised fuel economy figures --one for city driving and a better figure for highway driving

code p0171 refers to system too lean bank 1 causes---intake exhaust leak--- AIR system----MAF?VAF sensor fuel pressure/ pump injectors HO2S
code p0174 refers to System to lean bank 2 causes the same except Maf and vaf are not mentioned and hose connections are added
code p0316 refers to misfire detected at star up first 1000 revs causes ---engine mechanicval fault---wiring---ignition/ fuel system--injector
code p0430 refers to cat convertersystem bank 2-- effeciency below threshold causes ----cat converter--- wiring ----HO2S. Personally I would chewck the cat converter first as if it is blocking the exhaust system the ret of the sensors will have irregular readings.

Fault codes P0355, P0171, P0174 on ford expedition 2001 what do i need to fix

The P0355 code is, "Ignition Coil E Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction" this has to do with the coil(s) and the coil may be going bad, or you have a bad wire / plug (connection) to the coil. P0171 is "System Too Lean (Bank 1)" and P0174 is " System Too Lean (Bank 2)" . The P017X codes mean your ox2 sensors are picking up a lean burn condition. Engine running to warm (hot) or your coolant temp sensor is not reading right or one of the ox2 sensors (Bank 1) is going bad. Hard to trouble shoot this from my computer desk.

Failed OBDII Diagnstic trouble codes P0761 and O1744 What does this mean?

code P0761-
Possible causes - Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Faulty shift solenoid 3 valve
- Shift solenoid 3 valve harness or connectors
- Shift solenoid 3 valve circuit is open or shorted
P0761 FORD Description Shift solenoid valve 3 is turned ON or OFF by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) in response to signals sent from the park/neutral position (PNP) switch, vehicle speed and Engine Control Module (ECM) (throttle opening). Gears will then be shifted to the optimum position. When is the code detected? The P0761 code is detected when the ECM has detected a mechanical fault with the solenoid energized, valve stuck off code O1744- is not a code these are the ones I have found that come close

Check engine codes 97 ford exp v8 codes:0358 0171 0174

P0171 and 174 System Too Lean
Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in banks 1 and 2 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust).

These codes may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
•The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters may cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry.

•Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
•Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure

P0358 Ignition Coil H Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction
Code P0358 is for cylinder #8.

Inspect the spark plug, coil, and coil boot on that cylinder for signs of damage. Replace as needed.

If no problems are found with the components, check the wiring harness from the coil to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

Potential Causes: Failed coil or boot
Failed spark plug
Harness problem
