You need to check the primary & secondary resistance on your coil. If that checks out then you may have to replace your ignition switch, not the cylinder itself but the switch located under the dash on the steering column

I have a 1986 fully size jimmy with a 305. I need to find out where the computer is located. Everywhere i have searched has said in the glove box and i have taken it down but its not there

Your truck has no ECU (computer) it has a (ESC)-electronict spark control. this has the ability to change the ability to change the ignition timing under any and all operating conditions. Data from various remote sensors (coolant temperature, throttle position, rpm, ect.) is transmitted to the ESC. The ESC computes the information and triggers the ignition spark at precisely the right instant.
hope this helps...

I cant get the car to start the starter is working, i have changed the sparkplugs, and it is gitting fule. plug wires look good still, but havent changed them yet.

Hmmm.. looks like ignition prolem!

If ur 1986 323 has contact point and condenser in ur distributor, check that and replace if possible!
If u have an electronic ignition, the fault will be the ignition module!
Check if there is any SPARK coming out from ur SPARK PLUGS and CABLE!
tell me more!

Plugs and wires are a good start, if they haven't been replaced for a while. I would change the fuel filter and check the air filter. The fuel filter is often overlooked. The ones I change, you wouldn't believe the dirt that's in them.

check fuses. If fuses are good use a voltmeter at the connections to see if you are getting power. If you are not then you will have to run down a short in the wire.

How to change a coil pack in a 1986 Olds Ciera? I understand that it pretty much just needs to be unbolted and changed but my biggest problem is how do I get to the coil pack to change it?

If this is like the one I did,(you dont say which engine you have) I remove the bracket the alternater sets on.You then can have access to the back part of the engine.Remove the battery pos. wire so you dont have sparks if you touch the pos wire on the alternator. You might want to change the back spark plugs while the bracket is moved.

1987 cressida missing

Start with testing the injectors for pulse. Get a NOID light they sell the at almost any auto parts store remove in get plug from injector and plug the noid light into plug look for constant steady (pulse)lighting of noid light. Check all six injector on your strait 6. If all is good remove parke plug wire on at a time from cap and look for increased shaking and less when it replaced(Make sure to use wire puller with rubber insulation to avoid being zapped by spark from coil) Note cylinder with no difference or change when wire is removed. Those would be the problem cylinders. Then get a compression guage and check all cylinders for compression by removing spark plugs and attaching guage to each cylinders, make a not of each cylinder's reading. NOTE THEY SHOULD NOT BE MORE THAN 10 PSI difference in cylinders. Make note of low compression cylinders if any. If compression is good all around spark plugs are good, good ignition wires and you have good pulse pattern from you noid light. The only other problem is BAD INJECTORS and those would be the ones that didn't change when you took off the wires. I have work on these old cressida alot my self. Good Luck contact me if you need more help and if I solve your problem leave me a FIX-YA comment.
