No job stated, (are boxes apart?)
5speed box.

on mine , 5th gears are different ratio. OD 0.86 and 0.80
but is engine size differences not 2/4wd diffs.
the main counter shaft is totally different on 2wd, longer.
i have all p/n on both boxes.. so does suzuki.
my hands have even mixed gears. here.
if you count the teeth, you'd see in minutes
or are you shopping cases. (see how telling job first helps?)
1998 for sure has different gears, just 1.(but is engine size reasons, for OD 5th)

i dont have access to my database, im on vacation.
so can not look it up. (have full parts lists i do )

Testimonial: "can you e mail me the parts list or post it"

suzuki cars are underdogs, they bugged out here. chapter 11. finding use parts for them can be long long saga,
    car-parts.com wins

again, i guess this is theory question
you have not looked inside the 2wd box?
the 98 run along counter shaft is is no good
    most gears match.
im not home, im 3000 miles from my parts cats.
the online at suzuki suxs too, no graphics to ID parts, and see whats what.
    suzuki,isuzuk,daewoo , yogo all suck.
    all do. P|ss poor support.

why not say what engine is there,?
the parts list and tranny fsm show a
    type1 and type 2 5speed
    and 2wd and 4wd versions, 4 transmissions.

in first week of feb i can send all pn/
    in all boxes.

i need to see bad parts to know whats up
    countershaft and input shaft
    this tells me zero
    photos 1000 more
on mine the 2wd counter ,main shaft is way longer and a custom tail shaft housing just or 2wd and a bearing way aft and seal
    have photos.
the 4wd counter shaft fits the the close fitting transfer case.
    apples and oranges different.
    but most gears match up.
    see? to right?
4wd 5speed box, (my photos, not my site)
    http://www.fixkick.com/tranny/images/rea...

    see herehttp://www.fixkick.com/tranny/images/htm...

see the 2wd owner that cut the 2wd main shaft in half then made (ghettto) splines
    hopeless, and i fixed that.

    i went to car-parts.com
    and got a used box.4wd
not many left in the wild
    and less each day.

    if you look it up
you will see every wrecker that has one
    full usa, and canada.

had to buy 3 to get one near perfect
such is the life of an underdog fixer.

    love car
    hate suzuki big time.

    buy a jeep, and win.

2009 3 litre 4x4 diesel manual dual cab, has whining noise while changing 1st,2nd, 3rd gears under power.

manual transmission
indicates counter shaft bearing or clutch shaft input bearing failing
reasoning is that for those gears the load is transmitted across to the counter shaft placing a side load on the bearings while 4 gear ( not really a gear ratio) is direct connection from input shaft to out put shaft and removes the load from those bearings
the noise is actually from the gears coming slightly off the proper pitch contact of the teeth from the bearings failing

Can you switch a 2 wheel drive dodge ram transmission with a 4 wheel drive Dodge Ram transmission

yes you can what year is your truck? you will need around the same year truck to make it easier ... you need the front axle drive shaft and suspension components, as well as to be a decent welder. you need a 4x4 transfer case drive shaft and the output shaft from a truck with 4 wheel drive. other than that all you need is $$..best way to go is find a cheap 4x4 with a blown engine and swap, or trade yours for a 4x4... its a lot of work

Will a 1988 Ford F 250 4 wheel drive drag link and tie rod ends fit on a 1988 Ford bronco 4 wheel drive? If so is the F 250 drag link and tie rods stronger or beefier than the stock bronco drag link and...

In general, the Ford Bronco running gear is identical to an F150 4X4 running gear for the same year. The only difference is the length of the rear drive shaft. I doubt the F250 gear will fit, since typically the F150 running gear is made by ford, and the F250 running gear comes from commercially available parts (Dana, etc).

2003 gmc envoy 4x4 problems. 4200 vortec engine. my front diff doesnt seem to be

The Selectable Four Wheel Drive (S4WD) Front Axle consist of the following components:
• Differential Carrier Housing
• Differential Case Assembly
• Inner Axle Shaft
• Intermediate Shaft Bearing Assembly (located on the right side of the oil pan)
• Electric Motor Actuator
The front axle on Selectable Four Wheel Drive (S4WD) model vehicles uses a disconnect feature mounted on the right side of the oil pan in order to engage and disengage the front axle. When the driver engages the 4WD system, the Transfer Case Control Module sends a signal to the electric motor actuator to energize and extend the plunger inside. The extended plunger moves the clutch fork and clutch fork sleeve across from the clutch fork outer gear that is splined to the right side wheel drive shaft to the clutch fork inner gear that is splined to the inner axle shaft. The locking of the two gears allows the axle to operate in the same manner as a semi-floating rear axle. A propeller shaft connects the transfer case to the front axle. The differential carrier assembly uses a conventional ring and pinion gear set to transmit the driving force of the engine to the wheels. The open differential allows the wheels to turn at different rates of speed while the axle continues to transmit the driving force. This prevents tire scuffing when going around corners and premature wear on internal axle parts. The ring and pinion set and the differential are contained within the carrier. The axle identification number is located on top of the differential carrier assembly or on a label on the bottom of the right half of differential carrier assembly. The wheel drive shafts are completely flexible assemblies consisting of inner and outer constant velocity CV joints protected by thermoplastic boots and connected by a wheel drive shaft.

08 f150 4x4 on front end only one side is disengaging when in 2 wheel drive. The problem is when engaged into 4x4 wheel drive the front drive line spins and both sides engage but only the back wheels spin...

If I read this correctly ( which I might not have, bit early for me ), the front drive shaft will engage ( from the transfer case ) but the front wheels are not engaged ?

If so, sounds like either the vacuum from the IWE ( Integrated Wheel End ) is not being released, or the IWEs have had an issue with part vacuum ( damage vacuum lines ) and the IWE gear is rounded off.

If you pull the vacuum lines at the IWEs ( there are 2 lines, 1 is the vacuum line, the other is the vent tube that routes up into the engine compartment and is not attached to anything ), the front wheel should engage ( might need a 5 * turn to mesh the gears ). With the vacuum lines off, jack up the front axle ( take precautions, chock the rear wheels, parking brake, jack stands, etc ) see if the front wheels are engaged ( turning one wheel should turn the other ). The option is to do this after the truck has sat over night, and the vacuum has been released out of the vacuum reservoir.

If the wheels turn correctly ( engaged ) I would think the contact plates in the transfer case are not making contact. Good starting point for this is the connector on the side of the transfer case, some times this gets gummed up, and the pins do not make good contact. The contact plates in the transfer case are used for a few things, one of them is to signal the IWE solenoids to release vacuum to the IWEs.

Operationally vacuum holds the IWE ( Integrated Wheel Ends ) out, and once vacuum is removed the spring engages the IWE.

Here is a black diagram of the IWE vacuum system

Will 1994 dodge dakota 4x4 rear end match up to my 1995 dodge dakota 4x4. gear ratio wise

There should be a silver tag under one of the bolts on the rear ends. The numbers must match. If no tag is present with one wheel off the ground count the number of rotations and note the clock position of the final position of the drive shaft to make the wheel turn 2 complete revolutions. 3.50 rear end = 3 full turns of the drive shaft plus a half turn (6 o'clock.)

97 RAM 1500 4X4 replaced steering box and some

2 inches @ the steering wheel? i do not recommend tampering with the screw on the gearbox. that is for adjusting the sector shaft, usually only adjusted on high mileage gearboxes. since most of your driving is straight the gearbox worm gear wears out in that position, by adjusting it, it tightens up the gap in the gears the problem comes in when turning because it can be too tight on the ends of the shaft possibly binding up in your gearbox.and no matter what happens next it probably wont be good. try checking the couplings in the steering shaft. with the vehicle off, steering unlocked, have someone move the steering wheel left and right making sure not to move the tires, your looking to see play at all joints, couplings, or pivots. where you see one piece moving and the other not.

1996 suburban makes grinding noise in 2 wheel drive

sounds like the clip on the rear output shaft its probably broke. do this by removing the rear driveshaft, and the tail of the transfer case, there are 4 bolts holding it in place. then grab the output shaft and see if it has any front to back movement. if so pull it all the way to the rear and you should see a groove at the front part of the shaft where the clip goes. Then you should find the pieces fo the clip in the tail housing. One person said he found the replacement clip at a local tranny shop. I am calling the dealership parts counter for a new clip for my 97 Tahoe tomorrow. Hope this helps..

Hello, 1986 Toyota 4X4 Truck 22R carb engine manual transmission. My son was driving it and the rear wheels locked up. Driving in 2 High mode. He got the truck pulled over to the side of the road using 4X4...

I've seen a similar issue on other transmissions where the shifter slips out of the slots in the shift forks, either due to shifter bushing wear or just general wear on tte trans. It can usually be remedied at least temporarily by popping the shifter top off the trans and resetting the forks all back to nuetral and then reinserting the shifter. It gets jammed when two forks are trying to engage two different gear sets.
On one of the 4x4 sites, they tell you how to replace the shifter bushings, cheap fix if you are lucky.
Good luck.
