Ford falcon 6 cylinder backfiring and bogging out

check the fuel pump and filter. It sounds like a bad pump. the 85 had a pump on engine the 98 has pump in tank. test fuel pressure.

When car is in idle all is well but as soon as I go and hit the accelerator the power bogs down. As soon as I let up on the pedal the car runs at normal idle again.

1- could be spark plugs fouled.
2-Fuel injection system needs adjustment or repair.
3-Fuel filter clogged
4-incorrect ignition timing
5-Intake manifold air leak

This should get you started on the right trac....

check the fuel pressure, it should be over 40 PSI, also this can be caused by defective Mass Air Flow sensor or MAF for short, has your fuel filter been changed?if not it may be clogged.
