That indicates a cylinder misfire. Could be a bad plug or a bad or dirty fuel injector.

go to autoparts store and use their scanner to scan the computer and get the code. you may have to wait until you can catch it back on again. You can try resetting the computer by disconnecting battery for 30 minutes and see if that works first

03m grand am p0300 multiple misfires, cats seem fine, changed fuel filter, dont know what to do next

this could be caused by a couple of things. Defective plug wires, coil packs cause this as does the Ignition control module. Also being overful on oil will also cause a multiple misfire on your particular vehicle and others. Hope I narrowed it down some for you.

Codes P0440 and P0300

Hi,

A quick Internet search on those codes pulled up the following info.
http://www.obd-codes.com/p0440
  • Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the code, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
  • Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses
  • Inspect for damaged or disconnected hoses around the Evap purge solenoid
  • Check and/or replace the sensor
  • Check and/or replace the purge valve
  • Have a professional use a smoke machine to detect leaks

  • Faulty coil (pack)
  • Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
  • Faulty fuel injector(s)

A P0300 code is a random cylinder misfire code and could be caused by a bad plug, plug wire, or fuel injector. The P0171 is bank one o2 sensor is reading lean w/ both of these combined could mean a vacumm leak.. Hope this helps.
