After you might have replaced the faulty device according to the error code generated from the scan, for some vehicles you might still need to use the scanner to turn off the error reporting code.
Good luck.

2002 acura TL-s engine code p1456

Code P1456: EVAP control system leakage (fuel system).
Probable causes:
1. Wire harness. Check for correct voltage, open, short to ground, short to voltage
2. Control unit software in need of updating
3. Faulty PCM or ECM
4. Vacuum leaks. Damaged hoses or improper routing
5. EVAP system. Check canister, valves, or components. (gas cap excluded because you say you replaced it)

Some or all of the above could be the source of the check engine light problem.

Evap emission system

Have same problem with my 2002 Silverado. Changed purge valve. Still no luck. There is a fitting for forcing smoke into fuel system to find leaks. I checked out a friends Trailblazer (same code) Someone stole his gas cap. Bad gas cap can also cause this code. You can ignore this code. It does not have any effect on engine performance, but if you have to pass emision test must be repaired

I have a 2002 chevy cavalier z24 4-door and when I start the car cold it surges to 1500-2000 rpms and then works it's way down to normal. Now my check engine light came on and showed the error code for...

Hi there!

Its normal for the car to idle in high RPM in the cold start and soon as it warms up then it will go down. I dont think you are having any problem. And the Code for the gas cap usually come on when the Cap been loose for a while or when you pump the gas with the car running or a bad cap, And now you need to clear the code. Good luck

P0440 code shows up? could it be fuel cap? z24 2000 convertable. i was able to reset it.

What does that mean? This indicates that a part of the EVAP control system is no longer fuctioning correctly. The EVAP system consists of many parts, including (but not limited to) the gas cap, fuel lines, carbon canister, purge valve, and other hoses. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.
Symptoms You likely won't notice any drivability problems.
Causes A code P0440 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
  • The gas cap is not installed or working properly
  • The purge solenoid has failed
  • The canister is plugged and not working properly
Possible Solutions With a P0440 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:
  • Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the code, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
  • Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses
  • Inspect for damaged or disconnected hoses around the Evap purge solenoid
  • Check and/or replace the sensor
  • Check and/or replace the purge valve
  • Have a professional use a smoke machine to detect leaks

2002 Cavalier error code 440 and 452 What do they mean?

This indicates that a part of the Evap control system  is no longer functioning correctly. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a cars fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. A code P0440 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
The gas cap is not installed or working properly
The purge solenoid has failed
The canister is plugged and not working properly
TRY this first: Remove and reinstall the gas cap or replace, clear the code, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
Inspect the Evap system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses
Inspect for damaged or disconnected hoses around the Evap purge solenoid
Check and/or replace the sensor
Check and/or replace the purge valve

P0452 Evaporative Emission Control System Pressure Sensor Low Input

Good luck and hope this helps. Recap star with the simple and replace the gas cap with a dealer OEM not a after market. If that does not fix it then change the sensor as indicated with the P0452 code. You can get the sensor from Auto Zone and they can give yo the step by step instruction to get the job done. Good luck and keep me posted.

2000 cavalier check engine light code po440

P0440 - Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System

evaporative emission (EVAP) system has a large leak.
Check the gas cap or vent valve. these are the most common problems.

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) at different times performs various tests on the EVAP system. OBD II Enhanced EVAP systems are in place to keep fuel tank vapors from venting into the atmosphere, and instead purges them into the engine to be burned. Regular pressure tests are conducted by the PCM to monitor the sealed system for leaks. The PCM monitors the EVAP system pressure by watching the Fuel tank pressure sensor (FTP). When the sensor indicates a small leak in the EVAP system, this code is set.

Here are some additional causes.

* A small leak in any of the EVAP hoses or fuel tank hoses
* A small leak in the purge valve or vent valve
* The EVAP Canister may be leaking

Check engine light/gas cap will not stay tight.

Yes, the gas cap will cause the Check Engine Light to come on. Will set code P0441 if I remember correctly. It should be okay to drive it. If you would like to confirm the code, take the truck to an auto parts store like Autozone and have them hook up their scan tool and read the code. If its P0441 it will probably be something like EVAP or Evaporative system leak.

Its an easy enough fix while your there too, just pick up a new gas cap or you could pick up an OEM one from the dealership.
