Disabling faulty abs breaks. Will car still pass mot?

Is it safe and easy to disable abs breaks on a renault laguna 2.0ltr 1996. Garage i took it to said it needed a whole new mother board and 4 sensors. Fault happened when i got 2 new front tyres so i think one sensor has been knocked. So the abs grinds until it disables its self after 1 mile

If there is only one sensor faulty you should be able to replace that one.If for any reason one abs wheel sensor cannot connect to the abs system reader it stopes working. It means your brakes working just as fine but the Anti Block System is not functioning anymore.Your car will certainly pass the mot without ABS.

If abs go out will i still be able to use my other brakes.

Yes you should be able to disable the ABS but I cannot emphasize this enough.....DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL FIXED.

ABS and the normal braking system is the same set of brakes. It is not 2 separate systems. You can disable ABS and that varies between manufacturers as to how to do that. It could be the simple press of a button marked ABS or entering a menu and disabling or it may require sophisticated dealer only equipment.
Your ABS is obviously faulty (or at least one of the sensors is faulty) as it should only operate when it detects a wheel locking up under braking and you should then feel the pulsing through your brake pedal as it disengages and re-engages rapidly to prevent locking up the wheel.
Find out how to disable the ABS and see if that stops the shaking. Do it somewhere safe, not the highway and do it at a slow speed. Best course is to get it looked at by a professional

Hi my abs light has come on my laguna 2003 2lt what could the problems be and can it cause my brakes to fail on me ?

Not a Renault expert, but the ABS system is disabled when the light is on. You should still have normal brakes. The ABS system applies brake pressure to a wheel if it sees that wheel turning faster than the other three.
You will need someone to read the codes in the computer on the car.

My Cousin has a 2003 Ford Ranger his ABS light stays on and the Garage wont pass the MOT till it is fixed. they sent the whole unit up to Glasgow to be looked at but there machine couldnt read it. he has...

ABS light, most of the time, indicates a bad wheel speed sensor.
If you don't have an American OBD2 connected code reader or scan tool.
unplug one wheel speed sensor at a time, put a volt meter on the two wires,
set meter to HZ, and see if you get a decent output ,when turning the wheel
Compare, to what most likely will be 1 or 3 other good ones.

Got a 98 honda civic 1.5LS and the abs light is on so it has faild its mot. Will it be expensive to fix and would it be best to take it to a honda dealer

It's cheap to fix.Look for a program called digimotolite and a cable called elm327 on ebay. Will cost you less than £10 and once connected you can erase this fault.Hence your mot passed. Please rate this solution.

Abs and service light on constant,

I have a 1998 Renault Laguna 2.2DTi and on occasion the ABS warning light comes on. The reason for it is nothing to do with the ABS but the seat belt pretensioner. Where the seat belt clips in, there is a plastic moulding around the seat belt restraint, if you put your hand inbetween the seat cushion and the moulding you will feel various cables - if you play about with them, the warning light will go out!
