Car stalls , and losses power. powre short out

Car spuders, and power shorts out when reversing or low speeds. complete power loss, and needs to restated with no problems

Check your backup lights (reverse lamps) make sure your wire connections are tight and look forn worn wire sheath that may be allowing and unwanted electrical ground

Older Model Computer Codes (OBDI) - IMPORTANT! Codes may be different for newer vehicles starting circa 1996.
11 No ignition reference signal detected during cranking OR timing belt skipped one or more teeth; OR loss of either camshaft or crankshaft position sensor.
12 Battery or computer recently disconnected
13 MAP sensor or vacuum line may not be working
14 MAP sensor voltage below .16V or over 4.96V
15 No speed/distance sensor signal
16 Loss of battery voltage detected with engine running

Car will idle fine, and will drive for a short distance and then stalls out, but restarts ok. When in park and revving the motor it is fine, but when driving will stall out if you step on the gas peddle...


need to do a compression test sir. this sounds like _blown Head Gasket_ hopt not. could be easy things like clogged fuel injectors, long story short check that fuel rail has pressure to it... run some injector cleaner through gas tank.... check that fuel pump is working properly ie. not turning on /off on/off should stay on whole time cars on. thats all. questions or results post em so i can get back to you :) Derek

The steering in my 98 Buick Century is hard to turn at low speeds. Is this a steering pump issue or the rack and pinion?


Your PS pump is fine.

This vehicle has:

Variable-assist power steering: A power steering system that uses valves and speed sensors to vary the amount of steering assist according to engine or road speed. At slow speeds more steering assist is delivered and steering the wheels is easier; necessary for parking, etc.. At higher speeds, steering assist is reduced and more steering effort is required to steer the car, giving the driver greater feel of the road. Also known as Speed-sensitive power steering.

Loss of current to the magnetic coils would cause a loss of power assist at low speed. Coil resistance can be checked with an ohmmeter, and should read about two ohms. An infinite (open) reading indicates a bad coil (requires replacing the rack since the coils are not serviceable). Checking for shorts between both sides of the coil assembly and rack housing is also recommended.

On my display "POWER STEERING" warning flashes then stays. When this happens my car will **** as if it is about to die. Could it be a transmission problem or a cpu problem?


Not familiar with a "power steering" warning.

I think this is similar to a oil pressure light coming on. What you are seeing is that the car is trying to stall, so the loss of power causes the power steering pump pressure to drop, and thus the warning.

Need to understand the underlying issues:

(1) Since you start with a power steering warning, must ask, are you making a short turn when this occurs?
(2) If not turning, then need to understand what you are doing when car tries to stall: Driving at highway speeds, idle, car hot/cold?

Could be a CPU problem, less likely a transmission problem, but on a 2005, should be getting a check engine light.

there is a rubber diafram in the throttle body see if is worn out.and if dirt is deposited there.

Brake probleme


It may be an internal leak in the master cylinder which will allow the pedal to go to the floor with no loss of fluid. I hope this helps.

Sudden hesatation, loss of power, 2002 Hyundai Elantra


P0715 is the imput speed sensor is open or shorted. The P1529 is the transmission control module(computer) requsting the check engine light to turn on. These sensors are prone to going bad.
