The yellow car and lock symbol that appears on the dashboard of your Pontiac G6 indicates that the vehicle's security system has detected a problem. This symbol may appear if there is a malfunction with the system or if the system has been triggered by an event such as a collision or attempted break-in.
If the security system is functioning properly and the yellow car and lock symbol is still displayed, it is possible that there is a problem with the security system sensor or wiring. It is recommended to take the vehicle to a mechanic or a Pontiac dealership for further diagnosis and repair.
In the meantime, you can try pressing the unlock button on the remote or using the key to unlock the doors and see if the symbol disappears. If the symbol remains displayed, it is possible that the security system will need to be reset by a professional.
make sure the battery is fully charged, or try a jump start. if the battery is fine try un lock & lock the doors. if the light still does not come on, it means you have an issue with the control unit.
what it shows means that you have either a lost program on you ignition key,or the immobilizer been activated. It needs resetting the immobilizer or renew the key with the program.
The security light means the sensor in the key lock cylinder is not reading the chip in your key as being the right key. The problem could be the key, the sensor in the lock, or the control in the car. Have you tried a spare key ?
Basically, it means the check engine warning light didn't light up when it should. Perhaps a burned out bulb?
Every vehicle has a "system check" that happens every time you turn the key on. Most people don't know it is happening right before thier eyes. So if you go out and get into your car in the morning and you turn the key to "on" but then don't go the rest of the way to the "start" position there are several warning lights on. The check engine light is one of them. All the system is doing is running power through the light to show it is functional.
It doesn't mean there is something wrong, it is just showing that an error "can" be displayed if an error existed by the light being on. Try it next time. Turn the key on but dont start the engine. If your check engine light is off, then that is what they stated in the report.
There is a problem with the theft system. This is
the system that pervents the car from starting if the ignition lock
cylinder is damaged when someone trys to steal the car. You can try
and do a relearn, it may let the car start after this relearn. The most
common cause for this concern is the ignition lock cylinder, it has a
computer sensor inside that goes bad, you have to replace the cylinder
and program it. To reprogram/relearn, put on the parking brake(this
will keep the headlights from comming on and draining the battery), try
to start the car, leave the key in the "on" position. The security light
should no be flashing. Wait for tem mins, the light should turn off. At
this time, turn the key off for 2 seconds and try to restart. At this
point, the car may start, if not let the key stay in the "on" position
again for tem mins untill the light turns off. Again turn the key off
and try to start the car. It may take 3 times for the system to relearn,
if you try 3 times and still no start, you will have to replace the
ignition lock cylinder.
Light means service engine soon...may be something simple...a sensor going bad etc! As far as the locking key...go to a good lock-smith, remotes cost @$70 maybe more, and i had to pay about $30 for a new pellet key blank. hope this helps and could i get some thumbs up? thanks!
after the vehicle cooled completely and all the oil drained down it showed half full? that would mean it was anywhere from 2 to 2.5 quarts low? unless you mean that it showed halfway up the full / safe area on the dipstick.
the oil light being on usually means low oil or low oil pressure, if the vehicle still doesn't try to start after it is completely cool then you might have a locked up engine or multiple problems, check the oil again now that it has been sitting awhile look for water in the oil also check for oil in the water.
check battery connections again, make sure they are tight, if lights and such work then try to get a jump from someone. even new batteries can go bad
I would definitely be worried about that oil light though.
I would have to say it is the anti-theft light since it only flashes after you lock the doors which if this is that is normal, shows system is armed. However when looking through the owners manual on a 2003 model it shows it as THEFT and not a key,2002 shows the same, however 2004 shows a lock. The only thing I see that even closely resembles a key is the temp warning indicator.
You can go to this website and pick owner guides on the left task bar, then input your vehicle info, then pick get owner guides, then pick the owner manual and it will show you a picture of the instrument cluster and what everything means. http://www.genuineservice.com/genuineservice/en/default?page=genuineService
