Question about 1997 Oldsmobile 88
It may not have one. If your unsure, haven't verified it has one due to many newer engines not needing them anymore, check an online parts store like advanceautoparts.com or autozone.com to see if its offered or even call around to see if its offered. If you know it has one, then check between the exhaust and the intake manifold. If there is a 1/2 inch metal tube on the intake then trace it back and you should find the EGR valve.

EGR = exhaust gas recirculation
A code may come up if the sensor do not get any deflection/detection of the valve opening.
Looking for an unit that bridge the exhaust to intake area on the passenger rear area.
The passage/tube can build up with carbon over time.
Clear out the tube also to prevent poor NOx emission test result.

You can download the operators manual for free at chrysler.com. It has the instructions to program the garage door opener. It's fairly easy with the instructions.

YOU NEED TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FOR 5-10 MINUTES FOR FAULTS TO CLEAR COMPLETELY..HAVE SEEN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE AFTER REPLACING AN EGR VALVE..IT WAS A TECH TIP FROM CHRYSLER ENGINEERING..THE EGR VALVE WAS THE PROBLEM,BUT THE PCM WOULD NOT LET THE CODES GO EVEN AFTER CLEARING THEM WITH SCAN TOOL..ALSO CHECK CONNECTIONS AT EGR CONNECTOR FOR SPREAD PINS
