Question about 1999 Lincoln Town Car

5 sets of 5 beeps (chimes?) while first driving

When I first start the car and begin to either drive or reverse the car, five sets of five beeps go off... No other warning lights or problems are known. What does this sound indicator mean? Thanks for any help or ideas that you could offer.

Thanks for your response but I forgot to add to the explanation that this beeping is different than any warning chimes in relation to the seat belts or keys in ignition or open doors or trunk or hood or anything like that. The tone is slightly different and goes off even after all belts are fastened, doors, trunk, hood are shut and the car has been on for like 10 or 15 seconds. The 5 sets of 5 beeps (25 total) goes off starting first 10 to 15 seconds after starting the car and then does not go off again until the car has been driven for 30 minutes or until car has been turned off and started agian.

I have same problem. I used to have the SRS (air bag) light flash. But the light does not show anymore (burned out?) and now I get the 25 chimes.

Automatic transmission the car drives for 5 mins and will stop if i put it off and start again it will go for another five min

I believe the problem you do have with your auto-transmission,is with the electronics, probably with ECU of the gear box. By switching off the car and restart and the gear box works for five minutes and then the same thing again from the beginning, is like by switching off you do clear and reset the program of your ECU.
It is recommended to apply to a qualified Garage for a better and safe repair.
Good Luck.

Beeping warning sounds

Some vehicles have just a standard ignition chime indicating the key is in the ignition. If the sound doesn't turn off in about five chimes you may have a problem with the Chimer of that is if you have no lights on indicating anything.

Recently, my car started beeping. The sound comes from the dashboard (somewhere) and there are no indicator lights on anywhere (Check engine, battery, oil, etc). Upon starting the car, a long beep begins...

It could be a fault code being reported
you haven't mentioned a make or model
take it to an accredited service center that has experience on the make and discuss the problem with them

ATTACK OF THE 25 BEEPS!!!!

The airbag malfunction indicator light on the instrument cluster might be the culprit. Turn on the ignition key check whether the airbag light if present. The airbag light shld be on for about 6 sec then turns off if there are no faults found. If the bulb is busted the beeping sound will warn the driver for five consecutive beeps. wear your seatbelts also.

My 1999 moutaineer has a chime which goes off after I start the car. It doens't sound exactly like the seat belt chime. It continues for 5 minutes, even when all seat belts are fashened. Any ideas? Nothing...

sound like Neutral switch warning.

Check if your reverse light works.
If not replace it and you will probably be changing your neutral switch. unless you change it before it goes.

Incidentally when it goes the car will not be able to be put in gear once started.
It will be able to drive only if it is started in Neutral.
Good luck.

Have a series of 5 chimes 5 times believe its

The secondary air bag warning is an audible fault format that consists of five sets of five tone bursts, with each set of five tone bursts separated by a five second quiet period. One tone burst cycle will consist of one second ON and one second OFF. This series of five activations is repeated every 30 minutes.
This will tone if the air bag indicator is inoperative.
Suggest to have the dealer or someone with a scan tool that will communicate with the restraint system retrieve codes.

5 series' of 5 beeps in a row on start up

Check the Air Bag Indicator Light. When you turn the car on it should stay on for 6 seconds and then turn itself off. If a fault is detected in the system operation check, the indicator light will either fail to light, stay on continuously or flash. The flashing may not start until up to 30 seconds after the initial systems check.

If there is a fault in the system AND the air bag indicator light fails to light then an audible tone will alert you- it will be a set of 5 chimes (bells/beeps) five times in a row.

Have the Air Bag serviced and the indicator light bulb changed. Since the dash will be off in order to change the bulb, I would have all of the other dash lights changed at the same time. If one goes out, others will surely follow.

Good luck!
