Have a 2002 dodge neon and the ignition locked up i had it towed and the tow truck driver told me it was my ignition switch... this isint the first time this has happened so after i got it home i just...

Inside the steering column the ignition switch ties in with the steering and shifter lock. The lock plate will sometimes get off center/ out of alignment especially if the wheels aren't straight. This can make everything lockup. If more jiggling doesn't help, you may have to remove the steering wheel and ignition lock, align or replace the lock plate (if damaged) It could also be that the casing on the ignition lock cracked or broke and part of it has jammed in there.

I can't shift it our of park even if my foot is on the brake. It has no problems shifting between anything else just out of park

the steering wheel lock mechanism is prob the problem.....try to jiggle the steering wheel back and forth and work the shifter at same time..if it releases ok some graphite( dry, in tube) can be sprayed in the column, trying to hit the area of the steering lock...should do the trick...hope were are on the rite track...thanks

Gear shift is loose windstar sel 2001

You need to screw a bolt which is located under the steering column. Take off a panel under the steering column. Take a flush light look under and jiggle the shifter arm. There is a bolt (I think it's a star shaped so you need to buy it) connecting 2 parts of linkage. It will be loose. Screw it and shifter arm will be as new.

No rear parking lights

Do the rear turn signals work ?

Does the CHMSL ( Center High Mount Stop Lamp ) work ?

Did you check the fuse ? ( cab fuse panel Fuse #13 )

Could be 1 of 2 things.

1. If the CHMSL works Time to check the connector at the base of the steering wheel column. Try tilting the steering wheel all the way up, and see if it changes. If so, the connector at the base of the steering wheel column is starting to pull apart. Remove the knee panel ( bottom of panel has 3 (?) screws, by the base, look for a large connector 16 pin black connector ( some were white ). Press the connector tab, and pull the connector apart, and check the pins for discoloration. Clean if required ( type writer eraser works some times ), reassemble the connector ( if pulled apart, tab could be broken, might need to zip tie it together. zip tie the harness towards the truck ( not up the steering wheel column ) to the bracket for the knee panel, so it cannot pull back again.

2. If the turn signals work, but CHMSL does not and fuse is good, time to check the brake switch on the brake pedal. This should also have a problem with getting the truck out of park after starting, as this is also the shift interlock. You do not list this, so I imagine this is not the case.

Ford windstar 2001 Gearshift moves but will not shift into reverse. While shifting into reverse a bolt fell out from area where searing column is. How do I find out where it goes. drive works OK

This bolt connects 2 parts of gear shifter. It's getting loose. It's known problem. Look under the steering column. Jiggle the shifter you will see where the problem is.

There is a neutral safety switch on the transmission. You may need to change this.
