2001 saturn sc2 will die after starting

A week ago I have to tow my 2001 saturn sc2 to my mechanic because I cannot start it. He look at it and told me that the ignition lock cylinder and housing is bad, but after replacing it the car will just die after starting. It won't even rev up, my mechanic said that the security system or theft deterent seems to override the start up process, until now he's still trying to figure out what's wrong (he said he already called the saturn service center to ask for a solution but i dont why until now it still not fix) It's been a week now and it's still in his shop.Pls. help me, i need my car and i'm very frustrated with my mechanic.

The key is to locate the Bosch type relay.

It's a simply SPST 12V relay.

The alarm install like to hid it so it will prevent a car theft to by pass the relay.

Most likely it's on a female socket. The relay may be sitting off center,

THE KEY IS to find this black square relay.

It could be crank position sensor, but that's just one of many possibilities.

Have you checked to ensure you have spark, fuel and compression?

1995 Saturn SC2 sputters

pull spark plugs check if any are excessively white or have a mineral deposit. This would indicate a head gasket problem. Also check the oil stick & cap for milky substance, also indicates head gasket. Another thing to check is pull the ignition coil off clean up the rust to get a better ground. Basic tune up changing the plugs & wires, filters ect may solve the sputtering.

you need to contact all the GM dealers in your area and see if any of them have the ability to do off board programming. (That is where they have equipment that will connect to your computer and program it. It may have to be a Saturn dealer. I wish I could be of more help.

Can not find the front towing point on a Saturn SC2 1999

As a matter of fact there isn't one. I wondered the same thing when I had to tow another Saturn. Just find a hole in the engine cradle and loop it through there. It works just the same as a tow point (such as the back of the car under the rear bumper).

I had a similar problem. I gradually lost power (over a week) and then it finally died and wouldn't restart but for a minute and then die again. The solution was replacing the catalytic converter which had been ruined by a bad spark plug. It was a 2001 L200.

2001 Saturn SC2 Electrical issue

I had the same problem in a 1997 SC2.  Turns out that finicky/broken door lock/unlock switches were causing an intermittent short.
I removed the 20A fuses to these locks in the switch panel under the radio.  Problem fixed.
