I'm going to assume you has the diesel version of the Sprinter.

Diesel is just like a good old COX airplane engine.

The engine need to heat up by glow plugs.

You need to turn the key to on position and let the glow plug relay to energize the glow plugs for 5-X numbers of seconds first.......it all depend on the temperature.

The temp. sensor on the engine block will take all the guess work out for you.

When the dash indicator goes out then your are ready to start.

This is the correct procedure to start an diesel engine.

Please disregard this post if you has a gasoline version of the Spiniter.

As I understand you can set the preheat functions. It will come on if the temp( Light On) is too cold and the light will be off on warmer days.. Can also be set to turn on and off when not needed.

Bottom falls out of idle after revving engine cold

Its probably a problem with the water temperature sensor. Also do not rev a cold engine. The engine has a "cold start sequence" which is similar to a choke. When the engine gives a cold signal, the fuel mix is made richer and the timing is changed until the engine warms.

Let the engine warm at the preset factory settings. Sometimes the O2 sensors will cancel the cold start sequence before the water is warm. Racing the engine will warm the O2 sensors too quickly.

Glow plug light stays on for a long time

this will happen as it gets colder.. preheater needs to reach temperature before starting..in really cold weather we used to turn the key on and off a half dozen times in order to get these glowplugs really warm enough to start these diesel trucks..

2005 lincoln ls ruff cold start then smooths out

Check out the preheater for the choke circuit. It closes the choke to give a rich mixture at cold start.

I have a 2004 Impala. My heater and defrost blows cold air. It takes forever to start getting warm - I have to drive about 30 minutes before it starts to get warm if it's going to. If I turn the blower...

Staqr by making sure the coolant level is full in the radiator. When the engine is cold remove the radiator cap. If you can't see coolant in the radiator you'll need to add some. once it is full replace the cap and start the engine. Do you have heat now?

If not is the check engine light on?

Do you have a temperature gauge? is it reading lower than normal? The needle should be around the middle mark. If its near the quarter mark than you could have a thermostat stuck open which would cause the check engine light to come on and store a code for coolant temp below operating temperature. I think its code P0128.

Warning light looks like a curley line. Car had difficulty starting (it was cold), and when it did start, the engine light and this curley line came on. What is this curley line? What does it mean?

the "curly" line is the preheater inicator light,it comes on when the engine is cold and needs to "preheat" the combustion chamber,it works when you open, then close the door,.....if you wait too long to put the key into the ignition, wait for the curly light to fade out then start the car it will take longer to start the engine(it may take 2/3 tries )SOOOOOO, open door, get in, shut door, then start car, before you put on your belt/look in the mirror to check your makeup(sorry had to get THAT in....LOL... my wife has this routine).

2003 f250 diesel 6.0 hard start when cold, idles rough and dies. runs great once warmed up. Battery light is on but volts are 13.? Not sure if the 2 problems are connected or not

It sounds like your preheat system is not working properly on the cold startup. Haynes has a Diesel Engine Repair Manual, part #10330 that will help you correctly diagnose and repair.
Battery volts at 13 is good but a fully charged battery should be close to 14.2. It would be a good idea to get the alternator output checked and a load test done on the batteries.
Hope this helps.
