So more information is needed as a few things could be happening. Such as does the vehicle have keyless entry and a key fob, Also this vehicle may use what is called a master key which must be present when a new key is added. I am assuming you are trying to reprogram a new key and perhaps you are at the point of programming that requires locking or unlocking through the vehicle master (driver-door) switch. I posted a link to a couple ways to program a new key as more then one option exists for manual programming which is programming without a BMW scan tool. One other thing to check is the actual door that was opened, look closely at the latch and make sure it is not damaged and or a little lever may exist to disable the automatic lock unlock. If you see a little slot with a metal tab, that may need to be switched back to allow the lock to work. You can test this by using the key in the door to attempt to unlock it manually. http://www.programyourkeys.com/BMW_X5_Key_Remote_Control_Fob_Programming.html

replacing the complete lock set with the EWS control unit can be expensive as the control unit will also need to be programed and/or encoded, however if the lost keys cannot be found and you are sure they cannot be used to steel you car you can just order replacement keys from your local bmw dealer. hope this is of some help. You will also nead to disable the lost keys if you order replacements rather than a complete set.
SOURCE: 2002 BMW 325 - key locked in trunk
There are several suggestions out there on how to retrieve BMW keys from the trunk. Many of the ways I tried failed, and it takes 2 to 3 days to get a new key made up. In the coupe there is the center piece in the back seat that folds down. Then on the back wall there is material that will fold down that is held up with Velcro. Behind that you will find a rubber insulation that is mostly cut and looks like a door, but not all the way. Carefully cut the rubber to remove the piece. Now you will find a metal wall, but there is a large piece that is tack welded on. I got turned around and kicked it with the bottom of my foot and got 3 sides loose. Then a softball bat knocked the final side loose. Pull that out and trash it, the final barrier is the insulation that is held in place with plastic clips that can just be pushed down. After that you can a pretty large hole to work through and get the keys. Just put everything back in place other than the metal plate and you will never know anything was done.

hi do not quite understand what you meen on this question, but it might be a simple case of programming the new key with the vehicle, if this is an original key ( spare one) then try this ( link attached)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YcFN3Ns... if however you have had to replace the keys with new ones, are these ordered from BMW? are they original replacements for this vehicle?, have you had to change the locks? many questions to be answered before we are 100% on your issue thanks, hope the link helps though. ps. It might be a different model BM than yours but they all work on the same reprogram..
