Most likely not. This sounds like a door got left open and ran the battery down or there is a parasitic load that is draining the battery. Ether way the battery is either dead or not making a good connection due to corrosion on the battery terminals. Clean the battery posts, Charge the battery and have the electrical system checked out for things that continue to run after the key is off. This is called a parasitic load. Hope this helps. Good luck. cj2176.

Could be, BUT sounds more like a weak battery. can you get another car close to it and try to jump it? Let the other car run a few mints. before you try to start it, make sure you have good connections at the battery also. Battery is 5-6 years old if it has never been replaced, It's time.

Electrical burnt smell

If you had a short in the starter motor windings and held the key, you'd get a click and a burning smell. That would be the insulation burning off the electrical windings. There's a 40-amp max fuse in this circuit.

My jeep would not start or even turn over but radio, lights all work

Any clicking noises? My first thought is lithe starter has failed. Typically if all the other accessories are working and the starter doesn't when you turn the key it's likely the starter. Usually an a single click is heard everytime you turn the key to the start position. If you heard a series of rapid clicks when you try to start you likely have a weak battery. A jump start may get you going.

Check battery connections and battery fuse. Battery may not be large enough for the size of your van

My 2006 buick lacrosse wont start radio and lights work but its not saying nothing when i try to crank it

Hello! Do you hear a click when the key is turned?...If no click is heard either the ignition key, the Crank relay, the starter, or the battery are suspect...Having lights and radio does not mean the battery is capable of running a starter motor......Put a meter on the battery...should read 12.5 volts...Turn key...Does voltage drop to 8 or 9 volts? Bad battery...If all is well with battery and connections to it...Check the starter fuse # 33 in the under hood fuse/relay box...If the fuse is good that click you should hear is from the Crank Relay in that box...If all of the above is OK connect your meter to the Purple wire that is connected to the starter motor...When the key is turned 12 volts must be on that wire...If there is the starter motor is defective...So, #1...Do you hear a click when key is turned...That would point at a bad starter or weak battery...#2...If you do not hear a click bad fuse #33, bad Crank Relay, bad ignition switch...#3...If fuse is good Bad Crank Relay or Ignition switch; Crank Relay is a low cost item ($10)...Replace Relay...Stop there and send a comment as to results...Guru...saailer

Turn the key to start.. makes 1 click and then nothing..battery seems to be ok,, as does alternator.....what could it be

one click would indicate that the starter solenoid has gone bad. A series of clicks would indicate a low battery.

Try turning the key rapidly to the start position several times. Sometimes this will be enough to get bad spot to move and the starter will engage. If this happens replace the starter as soon as possibly. It will be under the vehicle back where the motor meets the transmission. A basic set of tools is all that will be needed to replace.

If you have any questions I would be happy to answer them!

Hi Kelly,
sounds like your battery is a bit sick. Or it could be the starter motor solenoid sticking.
The click you are hearing is probably the starter motor solenoid. If you hear a series of loud clicking its usually due to a flat battery in which case you need a jump start from another car.
If you can get someone to charge up your battery using a portable charger and the car starts OK, its a fair bet your battery is on it's way out. You can get your battery tested at any large reputable auto repair shop.
If the battery is OK, the solenoid can get stuck on your starter motor. Often a light tap with a rubber or wooden mallet can free up a stuck solenoid, but ultimately you will need a new starter motor. (BTW The solenoid is the smaller bit attached to your starter motor. There will be heavy wires attached to it) Have a look at link 1 below for more info.

My 2004 530i won't start.

If you hear a mechanical hum then its either something with the starter or the battery. Charge your battery and see if its just a little too weak to turn the engine over. If that doesnt fix it, then you might have to replace the starter. Unless there is a serious mechanical issue, your engine shouldnt be the reason the starter can't get it to turn over.

most likely your bendex wheel in the starter is not engaging the flywheel this could be due to a bad solenoid on the starter. chances are it's a bad starter, i would check to make sure all connections to starter are tight and you have atleast 11.5 -12.5 volts of current in the battery. low voltage can cause this problem as well
