Question about 2001 Subaru Forester

Sunroof makes grinding noise when opening 2001 forrester

Initially noise was occurring only when opening ALL the way - solution was to never open it past 1/2 point. now it makes noise as soon as roof starts to open.
Dealer doesn't really want to deal with it. I get vague responses about it will be expensive... but no details. will check clips on sun shade as mentioned in earlier post.

I had this problem with my Scorpio. If you can open the roof electonically to the full extent, then try to open using the mechanical method. Fully grease all mechanical parts, ( loads of grease ) including the mechanical screws that operate the sunroof. Open and close aout 5 times to spread the grease. Get a tube of KY jelly or Vaslilene and really smear it on the felt (or simular, maybe be rubber) edge beading to allow i to fit snuggly into your roof and making a rain tight, this worked for me, hopefully t will work fo you.

Let me know.

2001 dodge neon. My sunroof will not open at all. When I flip the switch all I hear is like a grind sound like a gear missing or something any ideas ?

I rented one of these a few years ago and the sunroof wouldn't open! The mechanics had to pull off panels in the headliner to get to the motor and drives. Also, the tracks that it mounts in need to be checked for alignment...good luck!

For 2001 Forrester Subaru - Front Windshield Washer fuse

If it makes noise, it's not the fuse. Most likely the discharge nozzles are stopped up. Try blowing compressed air into them from the outside.

Sunroof makes noise

a sign of worn motor or gears, track loose it lubrications over years gear work harder, heat weaken plastic gears and tend to fail, common problems to all sunroof, beside getting it repair you can try to to put a little of grease on the track and open and close the sunroff cuple of time that may help some. sunroof it fairly complicated on all vechicle to fix and expensive.

Sunroof stuck

First off, you should leave it closed. At least you can drive it that way. The grinding could be the motor itself, or a gear inside that has rounded or broken teeth. Another possibility is that it has slipped out of a channel or track. Unless you're pretty handy this sounds like a professional repair job.

1982 320i bmw sunroof crank

Hi Beemer Lover!

I too love the Beems, have had 1600's, 2002's, a 2002tii(!!!), 320's, and even had a gray market 635 (WOW!).

I believe the sunroof crank attaches like the window cranks... that is there is an outside covering over a metal crank arm that can be pulled away from the metal exposing a hole where an attachment screw fits through it into the sunroof crank splined shaft center.

Hope this helps, and good luck!
