Question about 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor

My 2004 Mitsubishi Endevor steering wheel is locked in place. The ignition key will not turn. I have no local dealer. The lock smith can't get to the ignition because he is not air bag certified. What do you suggest?

You don't have to be air bag certified. There is no such thing. You just have to have the knowledge to remove them. The trick is disconnect the battery and wait at least 30 minutes to be safe for the module to discharge. Then when removed DO NOT place the pad facing down. If you do and the bag deployed it would shoot up like a rocket. Not that it will deploy but in this case safety is job one. That's all their is to it. And the lock person is correct. Someone does need to replace the ignition switch. The question is does you car have security and will the new tumbler and key need to be programmed. Be sure the person repairing has this knowledge. Its possible its just plug and play. Its really would be best to have a repair shop perform this.

My key will not go into the ignition on my 2010 Kia Soul, tried moving the steering wheel and the gear shifter and still nothing. What else can I do besides replacing the ignition switch?

The steering wheel is locked when the ignition is turned off. Sometimes when getting out of the car, some people will be holding on to the steering wheel. Occasionally, the steering wheel will be pulled as they get out of the car. This will cause the locking mechanism to be pulled past it's normal locking position, making it impossible to insert your key. You may be able to correct this by turning the steering wheel to the left then to the right, back and forth with a strong grip on the wheel, while trying to insert your the same time. If you cannot get the steering wheel back to it's normal alignment, where your key can be inserted, call your local KIA dealer and ask for help. They should come to you and fix it for you. They made have to remove the steering wheel to release the locking mechanism and realign the steering wheel to line up properly with the lock.

2002 Avalanche, key will not turn but steering wheel is not locked. Unable to change the ignition switch because the key will not rotate. Any ideas?

Sounds like your switch is stuck far enough to keep the wheel unlocked but not far enough to lock your key in the cylinder. If it were me I would call a lock smith that can make keys from you lock cylinder as I would think your key may be worn down as keys do from time to time. Remember that yoy may have a chip in your key so after you finally get your new lock cylinder in get the truck to the dealer or lock smith, if they can program keys.

Ignition key will not come out ignition

see this steps and fix it. God bless you
If the key won't turn in the ignition, it could be for a couple of reasons: Often this happens when the steering is locked by the ignition lock with the front wheels turned aside (e.g. when parking on a hill) or when one of the front wheels is pushed against something (e.g. curb stone). In this case, try turning the steering wheel left and right while gently jiggling the ignition key - this might help to release the steering lock.
Another possibility is that there is a problem with the ignition lock or the key itself. This happens; the key and the lock mechanism wear over time. Try to use a spare key. If nothing works, your local dealer is the best place to call.

1992 toyota 4runner ignition is locked cannot turn the key

I had the same problem and after reading this thread contacted an automobile lock smith. He stated that the first thing to do is get a new key made to the factory key code. The metal in the key is softer than the metal pins in the lock tumbler, and when you make copies from an old key it copies the wear plus some.
I did not have the key code fob that came with the car so the lock smith told me to take the VIN# to the Toyota dealer and they can cut a key based upon the stored code for my 4Runner.

$10 later it works fine with the new key and a heck of a lot cheaper than spending the $200 to have the ignigition drilled and replaced.

Key is stuck in ignition. Depressing the "unlock"

Somtimes you need to turn the steering wheel a little to allow the lock to engage.

Try depress the unlock button while moving the steering back and forth a little. Try a lot..
If not work, drape a scarf or towel over steering column to hide key in ignition, and use spare key to open door lock. You do have spare key?
Check your insurance, you may have lock smith lock out coverage.
Good luck.

Key won't turn steering wheel not locked.

common for this key switch to be defective. Might try graphite lubricant to spray in the hole. Once you replace key switch it will have to be recoded (electronically)by a lock smith, repair shop or dealer.

Steering wheel wont unlock and key wont turn, tried turnin key and steering wheel, Am I supposed to have someone turn key while I shake the actual wheel? thxs, jon

They do stick from time to time, check the key is not bent. also adjust the hieight of the steering wheel. if you have parked it with the wheels turned in or out then you need to return it to the position faceing the way the wheels do. it can feel very stiff but have a go should do it, careful with the key. if you can get someone to help then do.

Always park your wheels straight!!!

Shut off 1997 buick skylark to go into store. Put key back into ignition and will not turn to start. The key will not turn to start car. Locked up. Is it the ignition switch, key, anti theft light also...

ok if key goes fully into ign then you have a easy and common issue. im guessing the steering wheel is locked too? if so insert key and hold firm forward turning pressure while slowly trying to turn steering wheel from side to side. the wheel should turn about a half a inch each way. if your parked in a pot hole or aginst the curb then more effort with the wheel will be required. this should do it good luck. if not this call a lock smith, they cancahange that lock cylinder on site where ever the car is in most cases, your is not complicated to replace

Steering wheel locked in place, key will not turn...

Very likely the steering thrust stored in the tires attempting to turn back is forcing excessive tension against the steering lock.

Try (very hard) to turn the steering wheel either direction while turning the key gently.

If that solves it you can avoid this by letting go of the steering after stopping to park, turn off the ignition slowly (engine off, pause, then key out). This will ensure that the steering wheel comes to rest prior to locking the column.
