Same Thing here, No Overdrive At all

Seems to shift fine through out, a little over normal rpms but smooth and i have no overdrive at all...I was told it was a bad solenoid in the transmission and with parts and labor would be $250 to fix

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY MY CHRYSLER 300 DOES NOT WANT TO SHIFT INTO OVERDRIVE WHEN ITS COLD OUTSIDE SHIFTS FINE AFTER THE CAR IS COMPLETELY WARM AND DOES SHIFT INTO OVERDRIVE WHEN IT IS COLD AFTER MY RPMS HIT...

This is a normal condition, the nag transmission control module needs to see a certain temperature of the fluid before shifting into overdrive this is due to fluid viscosity, if the fluid is too thick
due to cold temps the pump cannot supply enough pressure to fully engage
the overdrive clutch, if it did you would have slippage in overdrive

Wont shift into overdrive, high rpms to shift

run the fault codes before you tear into the tranny as the recorded fault will pinpoint exactly what you have to fix. Most likely a faulty TCM or a od servo/solenoid.

I had a simular problem.
Ended up changing the themastat and the gears changed into overdrive when the temp. got to normal running.
Be carefull that you get right thermastat though. You want one that reaches the normal working Temp as soon as possable.
Hope this helps.

The overdrive disengages when road speed drops below the threshold. Normally, when you speed up above the threshold you should be able to simply reengage overdrive. You may have a faulty speed sensor preventing that.

The rpms are too high, is this normal when driving 70 mph and rpms are at 2500

if you had 4:10 gears in the rear axle maybe. but i,d say your over drive is out. your truck should be running at about 2100 rpms or a little less at 70.

Fairly normal.
It is a planetary gear system with a conic frustum shaped clutch. So it tends to grab fast and hard. That is good, because then it wears less.

Sounds like the filter in the trans is plugged up. Should flush trans every 45,000 miles and replace filter and fulid. Its easier to take it in to a shop and have it done they use high pressure flush which will clean out the whole thing for about $200.
