SOURCE: loud clunking noise when accelerating from a stop

I assume that when you get the noise, the acceleration is compromised, yes?

I would tend to agree with your father. The transfer case chain may be slipping. This is a common characteristic of a "stretched" chain. I would not piddle about with the rear end/differential. If you have a bad diff, the problem would be observed all of the time, regardless of how hard or easy you accelerate. To change the chain, you need to remove the transfer case from the vehicle, remove the outputs from both sides, unbolt and seperate the case halves. The chain is then visible. Just make sure that you do not lose any small bearings, there is a lot of the flat "torrington" type bearings in it.

SOURCE: When i put it in reverse it makes a loud clunk

Hi Ali,

This sounds like one or more of your motor/powerplant mounts is broken. Here is an easy test:

Have someone sit in the driver's sear with engine running and trans. in Park.
You stand in front with the hood open. Have them shift from Park to Reverse, and then Drive and back to Reverse and Park, taking time to stay in each gear and give some throttle while holding the brake pedal tight. This will rock or move the engine a certain amount as they shift through the gears and apply power lightly. It will move alot more violently with broken mounts.

If you have a clunking noise on Reverse shifts, you should be able reproduce this with the hood up and pinpoint the noise and/or sight the faulty motor mount with a friend's help. Good luck, I hope this puts you on the right track to fixing this annoying noise.

Sincerely, Tater Todd

SOURCE: 2001 Tarus clunking sound

very common problem is the sway bay end links that attach to the strut from the sway bar. They sound like a light chuckling knock over bumps. The bushings that hold the subframe up wear or the bolts loosed due to the bushings wearing. usually the rear ones The bushings are 2 piece ,upper and lower Tighten with 18mm socket

SOURCE: My car is making a loud noise from the front end

Hi Becky Your mechanic should be able to find your problem. They will lift your car so your front wheels swing free and shake your front wheels around. The bad part can be found this way. Theres a lot of things this could be. But yes it would be a joint or bearing. Hope this helps you.

Clunking accelerating or turning sharply to the left.

Check the front suspension ball joints and steering joints. Check wheel bearings and adjustment. Check shock absorber mounts for condition . Check steering insert condition and top mount rubbers and bearings if McPherson strut set up.. If you have a steering shock absorber then check it's condition and mounting

Loud clunking noise from yoyager when on full lock

Loud clunking noise WHERE in the Voyager when WHAT is "on full lock"? It might help to be a little more descriptive.

Knowing Chrysler minivans the way I do, I would assume that you are chasing noises in the front steering and suspension. Those are notorious for all kinds of noise in the front suspension. You need to check the stabilizer links, the stabilizer frame bushings and the upper strut bearings - these are the most common "noise-makers".

If it is making the noise when you have the wheels turned hard to one side and accelerating, then it is most likely a bad CV joint.

1989 Suzuki Sidekick rear differentials

GET IT TO A MECHANIC!! Something is loose or about to collapse! Remember that vibration and noise can travel away from the source so get the mechanic to start in that corner.
You need to get the following checked!
-Prop shaft mountings at transfer box.
-Prop shaft mountings at differential.
-Prop shaft bearings.
-Differential condition and oil level.
-Drive shafts at differential end.
-Drive shafts at the wheel end.
-All flexing joints in the system including UV joints and CV joints.
