Use a 12v test light and check for voltage on small solenoid wire at the starter while turning the key to start. This will let you know which way to go .There is no relay involved that would interupt this signal to the starter from the ignition switch unless added aftermarket for an alarm system.

Why wont vehicle turn over

Is the anti-theft light lit ? Is the starter relay good ? Do you know what a relay is ? Are the battery cables good ? I would start will the starter relay circuit's if the anti-theft light is not lit.! The starter relay along with the starter relay diode is located in the battery junction box in the engine compartment. The relay is K-22 . If you pull out the relay an look on the bottom of the relay you should see four sets of numbers 30,87 an 85 ,86 . If you take a jumper wire (12-14 gage ) an jump pins 30 an 87 if the battery cables & connections are good the starter will crank . Pin's 85 &86 are the control side of the relay . One of these comes from the ignition switch when is start position an the other goes through the transmission range sensor (park neutral switch) To ground or the PCM if yours has a V-8 . Now if when you jump pins 30 & 87 an nothing happens you have bad connections or the battery cable is bad . You can go on youtube an check out videos on voltage drop testing the starter circuit .

04 crysler pacifica won't start, good battery, clicking in fuse box, was working days ago. Will replacing fuss solve issues? Thanks

The thing to do is do some electrical tests at the starter motor relay in the under hood fuse / relay box, do you know what a relay is ? It's a electrical switch , using a little current to control a larger current ! The clicking you hear in the fuse box is a relay more then likely ! You can check for B+ (voltage) at the relay . The starter relay position will be marked on the lid to the fuse/relay box . When you find it pull it out an look on the bottom , you will see some numbers ,30,87,85an 86 . 30 an 87 are the load (starter) side .One being B+ an the other going to the starter . you could take a jumper wire an jump 30 to 87 an the starter would crank over if the starter is good .an if wiring going to the starter is good . 85 an 86 are the control side .85 comes from the ignition switch ,86 goes to the PCM - engine computer . I will post a youtube video on the subject. VEHICLE RELAYS Operation Diagnosis

Headlights, interior lights and radio not working on 1989 corvette. checked fuses and they seem to be ok.

If a good visual inspection showed you nothing like a broken, pinched or cracked wire. Check your ignition relay to see if it is good. You can use a 9 volt battery with some wire and touch the wire to the battery then to terminal 85 & 86 on the relay. If you hear it switching it is good. The relay should be under the hood in the fuse block terminal. Something I seen in the past with the same situation on the same vehicle was water in the passenger side tail light. This causeed the ignition switch to short out and changing it fixed the issues. If your relays and fuses are good and you would know that for sure because you tested them with a test light or ohm meter than I would go after the ignition switch. Unfortunatly if you don't know what your doing and it is a wiring issue you may not figure it out. There are a number of things that could cause this issue. Not working could mean the lights are flickering and you can here clicking. I'm assuming the vehicle starts. More detail could help diagnose the root cause.

1985 corvette, less than 10,000 miles on complete rebuild with new injectors. Ran perfect when put into storage about 5 years ago. I have replace old gas with fresh gas and installed new battery, will...

You probably have a bad fuel pump. Get a fuel pressure gauge and check for fuel pressure at the shrader valve. Put the key to the on position. Your fuel pump should run for about 2 seconds. Your pressure should go up to 30-40 psi. If no pressure your pump is bad. Make sure you hear the relay come on, otherwise could be the relay. You should hear it click when you turn the key to the on position.

My electric cooling fan on 86 vette was not coming on causing car to overheat. I lightly hit the relay against the fender well a few times and it started working. Should I replace the relay ?

Replacing the relay would be the cheapest thing to do first. Before you replace it be sure that the connection, where the relay goes, is good. You may also want to add some gel that keeps contacts clean. The gel can also be found at the local autoparts store. Good Luck.

2001 Corvette would not start, wouldn't even turn

From your symptoms, you are probably experiencing a bad starter relay, or bad starter. These are often intermittent problems, but can both cause it to act this way. The remote has nothing to do with it. I would start with the relay, and if not the relay, it's likely the solenoid portion of the starter. If it's the starter solenoid, then you may be able to take it apart and replace the contacts in it, which is usually where they go bad.

86 fordtruck new starter tuck want turn over

Go back and recheck the wiring to starter first. I suspect it's either the starter solenoid or a bad ground to starter if you are sure you are getting power to the starter. Make sure the ground is getting good contact. If you can put the ground cable to one of the mounting bolts on the starter to make better contact insted of the engine block. Clean the area before installing the ground. Be sure you disconnect the ground cable from the battery before you start work on the starter. Hope this will help you.
