Question about 1988 Ford Mustang

2 Answers

The stoplight swith on my 1998 Ford mustang keeps going out. I have had to replace it 4 times in 4 years, Last time was just 4 months ago, And now today I have the same problem again. Is there a root problem that causes this over and over again? I have replaced the wiring alos, even though there is no sign of corrosion, or burning. The switches look fine too, they just stop working.

The switches I have replaced are Ford parts, the wiring has been replaced also, and the switches still goe out.. there is no warning it's coming either. I could drive the car anywhere, park, do what I do, and come out to go home, and just liek that... it won't come out of park. I have to keep an extra switch and tools in the trunk, just so I can change it out and get it home. This is very frustrating if I am headed somewhere important, like to work. So I need to figure it out.

Is the lens loose and vibrating? Are you using high quality lamps and are they the proper size. Check the one on the other side and make sure it's the right number on the lamp.It should be listed in owners manual. If not, I have a Ford shop manual. Let me know I can look it up.

Make sure the parking brake circuit is closed. If your parking brake light isn't lit up on your dash, it's not closed. I have some issues with that switch on the brake from time to time. It won't supply power to the top switch unless the brake switch is closed. Hope this helps.

Hi,

$500 is a bit high. The sensors are on the exhaust and basically they help your car exhale. If you continue driving on a bad one it will throw your exhaust, intake and finally engine off key...

They cost about $90 buck a piece if you dont shop around and you can ask a tech savvy neighbor to put them in for you. The website below should be of help.

gasoline will go bad! if you plan to store your vehicle use something like "STA-BIL" to prevent this. you may need to remove the gas that is in it and replace it with some that is fresher.

Rear wheel bearings keep going after only a short period of use.

When you install the bearing are you replacing the complete hub? The torque spec for this is 130-174 ft.lbs. Also are the rims and tires of stock size?

Check the EGR tubes for carbon build up. It's not the fact that the EGR valve keeps going bad, the reason that there it thinks it's malfunctioning is the tubes itself will not allow enough flow. Remove them and clean them out the best you can.
