The cooling fan should only kick in when the temperature sensor tells the computer it needs to. If the fan comes on immediately after you start a cold motor and the AC is switched off, you either have a bad sensor, a bad computer, or a bad fan relay. You are going to need a decent voltage meter and a shop manual to track this one down. Good Luck!!!

We borrowed our daughter's Hyundai Santa Fe to make a trip to the mountains on a 105 degree day. It was doing great on mountain highways until we stopped after about 3 hours.

May be a bad fan or thermal switch not working. The a/c condenser sits in front of the radiator. It may be that the load on the engine going up the mountain is too much for just the air blowing across it to keep it cool, and the car shuts the a/c off to try and keep engine temp down. Cruising along on level ground is enough to keep things cool. Going up the mountain means more engine heat and probably reduced speed, which reduces air flow, especially if a fan isn't working.
Let car cool off, start engine and let it warm up without driving. Monitor temp and fans. When temp gets about normal, look for fan to kick on. Then when turning on a/c, look for the other fan to kick on. Don't let engine overheat. If one or both fans don't come on, start there. Check fan motor not locked up, relay working, fuse/wiring good.

Cooling fans kick on for a few seconds then cut off

The fan should work off of the water temp. The fan will come on and off to keep the constant temp on the cooling water. If equipped with a second fan it is probably for the AC and will run when the A/C is on. If you think the fan should be on. Then If you know where the fan relay is check to see if it is hot, if real hot the relay may be going bad. Hope you know this when you turn the car off the fan can still come on if the water temp is to high. My thought fan going bad, temp sensor or relay may be the problem.. If you can touch the fan motor metal housing and it is real hot the fan man be going bad, remember the blades can start at any time.

SS w/3.8l engine. What would cause the first electric fan not run but when temp rises the second fan will come on?

The coolant fan should kick on when temp reaches 192 degrees. Have you changed your thermostat? The 2nd fan is for the a/c. If car is running hot, it's probably thermostat or cooling fan

Radiator fan coming on for no apparent reason

Radiator fan is controlled by a temperature sensor. If the temp is at the point that the fan should run, it will turn on, whether car is running or not. If the car sat for hours without running And the fan kicked on, I would change the sensor...otherwise its probably doing what it is supposed to do. It also runs all the time when the air conditioner is running.

My cooling fans are not turning on

kick on the ac, if they turn on you know that the fans work, if not replace the fans. If they work its probably the thermal fan switch

Fan dont work but when i turn on cooling system two fan work please give me lay out for cut-off and fuse

If you have two electric fans the fan on the passenger side of the vehicle is the radiator cooling fan, that fan should run when the motor gets to hot. The fan on the driver side is the ac condenser fan that fan runs only when the a/c is turned on. The only time that both fans run is if the a/c is on and the motor or coolant is above normal tempeture.

My 96 corvette runs hot,fan wont kick on,i have to turn on air and fans\r\ncome on,i replaced 3fan relays ,thermostat, coolant sensor, temp, switch

Recently had a camaro with the same issue. What I found was the fan itself causing the issue. It was creating so much resistance at the fan motor that the only time it would function is if it was forced to hi-speed by turning the air on. The different speeds hi-lo operate at different voltages. Would check this out and let me know me know if this helps.

Car overheated and turned off. Noticed both fans don't kick in, what could be wrong?

Blown fuse, defective thermal relay, or the fan motor is defective. One of the fan motors should run continuously when the A/C is on.

Merc 280 cuts out at just above the 80 cent level

It is a good car. You just have a minor problem. Replace all thermal sensors on top of your engine. One to control the cold start valve, itf it is bad it gives erractic resistance to confuse the ECU. One is to turn on the electric fan when the engine temperature hot. If it is bad giving out of range resistance reading, then you have the described symptom. Good luck.

2006 Radiator Problem

1st what temperature thermostat got installed, also make sure it wasnt put in backwards,if ok start your car let it run when the temperature rise is the fans kicking on to cool the radiator,if they are as soon as they kick on ,with a rag squeeze the top radiator hose, caution it will be hot,you should lose pressure when the fans kick on in the hose it means the thermostat is opening,if ok, check bottom hose to see if you feel antifreeze running thru to let you know its circulating,if not its your waterpump, one thing you can do is when the car is cooled down take off radiator cap and squeeze bottom hose quick 4 times in a row to make sure you dont have an air pocket,if this helps please vote me a fix ya
